View Full Version : Football Season!

As many of you know fall is rolling around the corner and that means football! I love football and I am more excited for this season. But I'm not excited for the Broncos season yeah yeah I know what's wrong with me but I'm more of a college football person. I'll still watch the Broncos though. I digress but as many of you I am in high school (Holy Family High School) and I'm going to be a senior this year and this will be my last year of high school football and probably last year of football all together but you never know. I figured sense I'm so stinking excited I'd update you guys every week on who we are playing and various other things like when and where we play just in case you have nothing to do that night and want to watch some high school football (I would suggest going). Also I would update you guys on how the game went down last year maybe how I feel about the team and how we will do but I'm a little weary on that so don't get your hopes up. As well as how I did.
So a little bit about my football career I've played sense 3rd grade so this will be my 9th year playing. I high school this will be my 3rd year starting varsity for defense. Sophomore year I played Defensive tackle as a gigantic 150lbs and was thrown around like a rag doll a lot sense most of the kids had 50+ lbs on me and even one game 170. I ended up getting all- league honorable mention which surprised me and I'm sure everyone else. Last year my Junior year I played Defensive end and had around 66 tackles and 2.5 sacks as well as a couple forced fumbles (don't know how many) and ended the year with All- Conference honorable mention (might have got 1st or 2nd team but I had to pretty bad games). This year my Senior year I have been moved back to Defensive Tackle and will rotate at D-end periodically when they need a breather.
My Sophomore year the team went 8-3. We lost in the first round of the play offs to Windsor High School who ended up winning 3A (the division/conference we were in I don't know the correct term for it I've heard both). Last year we went 8-3 and well losing in the first round again but this time to Pueblo East High school who I believe ended up going to the semis? This year I'm feeling pretty confident in the team as long as well can pull ourselves together.
Our first game is a scrimmage at Holy Family against Dakota Ridge High School and Brush I believe if it is that same as last year.

Dante - I'm going to try to get to some of your games if I can. I love HS sports and have a long time to wait for my little girl to be old enough to play. My eldest girl was varsity volleyball (setter and captain) for 3 years which was a lot of fun. I never missed a game.
Stay in the game and keep up with the homework!:thumb:

Great! Don't feel obligated though sense I am not your child or sense we don't really know each other but that would be really great even if you came to one. I would suggest sense you are in Westminster to come to one at Holy Family sense it's probably closest. We use to live in the Standley Lake area until we moved to Erie a year and a half ago.
And don't worry I'll keep up with the homework school first then sports. Or it goes get bad grades and never see the light of day again:)

Tomorrow begins the season. We have a scrimmage against Dakota Ridge and Brush? (not sure about Brush). Both teams are very good. Dakota ridge being a 4A and Brush being a 2A (5A-1A just in case you don't know) Dakota Ridge use to be one of the best teams in 4A but dropped off a couple years ago but are starting back up on the rise. Brush is a very good 2A they are always in the Semis or better. They could move up to 3A with us and could hold there own but I doubt they will be moving up til they win a state title. I'll post up after wards and let you guys know how I did. It looks like as of right now I'm playing defensive tackle, offensive tackle and almost every special teams (haven't gone over kick off or kick return but I have a bad feeling:frown:) I'll let you guys know how I do and post about our first game which is next saturday

A man of the trenches, nice. Played nosetackle occasionally when there was a big slow center because I could break under and around before they had they're hands up but was primarily LB, CB or safety on defense. If center could get on me I was done for though due to my size. My first high school team played 8 man football in a cornfield. I weighed 150, benched 150 and ran a 6 second forty my freshman year. Through lots of off season work by my senior year I was 215 lbs, benched 310 and ran a 4.3 forty (did not grow a single inch taller though) Looking forward to hearing about your season and hope you get to play your way through higher education. Good luck tomorrow.

I know how that goes. Sophomore year I was about 150 going against kids that were 50+lbs on me. I got thrown around like a rag doll about every other play but I'm a tough SOB and got back up and hit them in the mouth the next play (or attempted). Now I'm 170 on a good day benching maybe 250 can't gain weight to save my life and that has been my main down fall in high school. I have everything else down and mastered for the most part but that only helps you so much til someone bigger gets their hands on you

Just got done with the scrimmage ended up being Dakota Ridge only. We were suppose to start at six but due to weather we ended up starting at 7. I had one back side tackle for a loss of yards on the first play and would have had about three sacks but you are not suppose to bring down the QBs during scrimmages unless they start to scramble. I had a couple other tackles as well and pancaked a kid on offense but the running back ran right into him. I ended up playing DT NT and OT. Overall we did pretty good. Our quarter back dislocated his finger so he was out the rest of the scrimmage and the fourth string had to go in a did a hell of a job for being a sophomore who is maybe over 5' 6". Both sides of the ball game out strong and played pretty strong the whole scrimmage had a few mental errors but that happens.

This week
August 30 7:00pm @ HoFam against Faith Christian
This week we are playing our rivals school for the first game of the season. Faith is only 2A but we still play them cause of the rivalry. They are a good team and could hold their own if they moved up to 3A. They are beatable but so are we. If we come out playing like we did in the scrimmage we should have no worries if we come out slow like we did a lot last year it will be a different story. This is a huge game for both schools and the field will be packed! If you are wanting to go to a good game with a lot of energy out of the players and fans this is one of the games I would suggest like I said before this is going to be a HUGE game!

Won Big! 42-15 I believe it was 35-3 at half. Was a good hard fought game which that's how it is in any sport against Faith. I forgot to say how the game ended last year. We won 27-24 with a last second field goal so this wasn't quite as heart pumping but still a good game. My dad totaled up 4 tackles, 1 assist, 1 forced fumble, 1 recovery fumble recovery. I almost blocked a Field Goal but crapped my pants and didn't know what to do once I got past the line. The game overall wasn't very pretty lots of penalties on both sides of the ball for both teams but it was the first game so lots of room to improve. Overall I think we did a good job but have room from improvement. I'll update you guys sometime this weekend on our next game for those of you who are interested.

I'm hoping to be able to make at least one game this season. Would be easier if it was in my neck of the woods though since I don't get home from work until 6ish. After I change jobs will have a better chance I think. Congrats on the victory! Would be cool if you could get a vid or two of you. Only video I ever saw of me playing was my longest run of my career as fullback (whoppin 32 yards) My brother always told me as a running back I am supposed to run away from linebackers...I preferred to knock em on their tush.

This week
7 September 11:00am HoFam @D'Evelyn?
The only reason why I put a question mark @D'Evelyn because when we played them my sophomore year it wasn't at their high school it was at another stadium so I'll change it if it is at the other stadium. This is another big game they are another rival we have in football. My sophomore year we lost to them 17-14 I had a chance at multiple sacks but the QB was 220 and I was 150 and either was too late or didn't lay down a hard enough hit on him. My junior year we won 38-30. When we played them sophomore year they were 100% passing and my junior year they were 90% passing. So as you can tell this is a very big game for the secondary because they primarily throw the ball.

I forgot to update the game this week. We were suppose to play Mead at home today for our homecoming game but it was postponed to tomorrow. It now appears that almost every game that was rescheduled for tomorrow is now being moved to Monday. Which is unfortunate because we have play #1 in 3A on Friday but they are playing Monday as well so that will help us a little bit too.

I'm not sure if anyone reads this thread at all so I will stop updating it if no one is reading it. Well the Mead game was cancelled due to the weather and unfortunately will not be making it up.
20 September 7:00 #3 HoFam VS #1 Silver Creek
This is now our homecoming game sense the original one was cancelled as said above. Last year we were their homecoming game and ended up loosing 28-20. We played a sloppy game but still stuck with them . They were smacking us around til the 4th when we started to make a come back. They went on that year to win State for 3A. They have 28 returning starters this year and are still a very good team only loosing around 5 seniors. As you can see they are ranked #1 and we are #3 so who ever wins this game will go to #1. If you are wanting to see a really good game of high school football you aren't going to get much better then this especially for 3A. This is the one game I would suggest going to if you are interested in going to a game this year.

Alright I wasn't sure. Sorry if that came off as rude it's been a long week. Well we lost 45-12 it was ugly every mistake you could make we pretty much made the first half. I had 2 tackles considering I was up against a kid going to CU and the other kid was hugging and holding on to me like his girlfriend. We will see them again when it really matters and hopefully the score will be opposite.

sorry to hear Dante. How we handle our losses define us as men and give us goals for improvement. I look forward to your 7 sacks, 15 tackles and 2 interceptions next time :D. Not to mention an onside kick return for a touchdown. But seriously it is still fairly early in season and it is better to have an off game now rather than later. Were they that good or did you guys beat yourselves?
dscowell
September 21st, 2013, 06:58 AM
Combination of both! If anyone can beat them it's probably us (not trying to sound cocky). They were ranked #1 for a reason and we played scared. First offensive drive we had 2 bad snaps and one went over the punters head for a safety. That in my opinion killed all our momentum and energy. The rest of the game most kids were playing scared. Not catching the ball or trying to make arm tackles. I can almost guarantee we will see them again.

HoFam @ Berthoud
We play Berthoud this week and they aren't the greatest team but they do appear to be much better then they were last year. I'm hoping this game will help us get our momentum going again so we can plow through the rest of the season. When we played them last year for our homecoming game I had 1 sack and safety and a couple tackles (don't remember the exact number). We ended up beating them 51-19. But like I said they seem to be a much better team this year then they were last year.
dscowell
September 27th, 2013, 11:00 PM
Beat Berthoud 48-20. I had 3 tackles 4 assists and 3 sacks. Everyone did well and played much better then last week. The refs were not the best probably experienced at the varsity level. A win is a win and now we move on to league games. These are the games that really matter they get you into the play offs and determine your play off ranking.

HoFam VS Thomas Jefferson
This week we play TJ high school and they are very young this year. They have 5 freshmen starting this year I believe from the top of my head. They are overall a very young team with a lot of talent and athleticism but not a lot of experience on the high school level. Last year we beat them 17-14. We played terrible but some how came out on top. That game was probably my worst game I've ever played so this year I'm looking to redeem myself from last years poor performance. I'm feeling confident about this game we just need to play mistake free the whole game and not repeat last years performance.

October 6th, 2013, 10:04 AM
We won 39-6. I had 5 tackles 5 assists and 1 sack. Defense played great not giving up any points til the last minute of the game when the JV was in. TJ also didn't get passed the 50 more then 3 times with their offense on the field if I remember correctly.

Hofam @ Erie?
This week we play Erie, they are the football teams second biggest rivals behind Faith Christian. Last year we won 43-42 and the game went into 3OT until we finally stopped them. They lost to Fredrick this past week so if they don't beat us this week then their chances of going to the playoffs are very slim. Erie's field is permanently messed up for this year so they have been having to play their games else where which is a bummer for them. I'm not sure where our game will be played but I'll make sure to post it up if anyone is interested.

WooWee was that close 20-19. Stopped their 2 point conversion with about a minute left then we got stopped. They got the ball back, one of the ends tackled the QB at the line then QB dropped back again took off down the field got a touchdown but was called back due to the tackle holding me. Then we got 2 huge sacks by the ends to finish the game. I have much respect for Erie they are a class act team who is very good. I had 6 tackles and 3 assists. Next game is Fredrick and I'll update everyone on that tomorrow cause I don't wanna get to fired up before I go to bed.

HoFam VS Fredrick
This week we play Fredrick high school at home. This will be my last home game I will ever play unless we win. Both of us are undefeated in league and whoever wins this game wins the league title and is guaranteed a top 8 spot in the play off rankings and has another home game. Last year it was the same scenario but we lost 21-7. All I will say is that Fredrick is not the most sportsman like team and neither are there fans.

HUGE WIN 39-28! Played a great game and beat a very good team. This wasn't my best game but I guess it could have been worse. Our next two games are against teams who aren't the best so we have league all wrapped up! This will be the first time in 9 years holy family has won league and the first time in 3A. This also means we will be able to host a play off game and with our record and schedule right now if we win out there is a very good chance we will be top 4.

HoFam @ Denver North
this week we play Denver North at All-City stadium. We have own league and are at number 3 right now in the 3A rankings. We will probably stay at 3 which sets us up good for the play offs. On the other hand Denver North it's doing as hot. One point in the season they were 45 outta 45 in 3A. This will be the last game for these kids and they will mostly be out to try and take some of us out like last year. Funny story my grandpa went to North high school and calls up every year and talks trash about how they are going to win. Also one of the assistant softball and baseball coaches went there so during the game he will cheer for them on the Holy Family side wearing Holy family gear. Get through this week and we are in the playoffs. Sense we have won league we will have a home game for the first round of the play offs then it's up to a coil flip (stupid in my opinion) then the top seed hosts the championship.

So like posted before we beat North 51-20 it was 16-14 at half when which was pretty disappointing. We got to big headed and knew we were going to win so we didn't play to hard. Came back and put up the last couple points to seal the deal then put in the back ups.
This week we will be playing Delta at HoFam. I am unaware of if it will be Friday or Saturday but when I find out I will post it up. It's do or die time now if we loose then we are out and done for the rest of the season. We have never won a play off game in 3A before so it would be a big deal not only for the program but for the school. The last 2 years we have lost both of our games but this year it will be different. We are a top seed and have home field advantage for the first game.
