Alright, I have decided that now is as good of a time as any to start a build thread.

The plan:

dana 44, 4.88 gears, eaton E locker, eventually a long arm kit, and whatever else I decide to throw on as I go.

As of now:

Two days ago I noticed some weird noises coming from the bell housing. Yesterday, I heard what I thought was the clutch going out, and lower power output than normal. So, today I brought it over to Popsgarage to install a new clutch, master, slave, and flywheel. The clutch has 0 issues now. (Before I wasn't able to shift into 1st or reverse from neutral) but, the squealing, knocking, and low torque output is not remedied. It died twice on the way home and it only had power breaks if I revved it up. As of writing this, I have no idea what could be causing this, mainly because it was all of the sudden. Over the course of a round trip to boulder the symptoms had worsened to the point of barely being able to idle. Oil pressure holds and temp is fine. I'm hoping that this week I can diagnose what could be causing the problems and possibly figure out if the motor can be fixed.

I'm open to any and all suggestions of what it could be. I'm guessing it's something catastrophic. Either way I'll fix the problem or slap in a new 4.0 and rebuild the old block for resale.

Thanks to Popsgarage for the help on the clutch. It feels great when I'm going down hill!

Anyway, I'm a bit pissed at my current situation being as the mj is a daily and I use It to haul materials and tools for work... but what can I do? :lmao:

(At the bottom of the post there are four photos, the first is when I first bought it about 9months ago, the other two is it as of November 10th 2013)

No OBD what so ever. It's a '90, no check engine light, abs, or traction control. Plus it's a stick, just the way I like it. The pure driving experience!

But thanks pops! I'm going to pop off the plugs after work tomorrow and try to fix the exhaust and starter.

Naa, I'm keeping the 4.0... And I've signed up but haven't posted an intro yet.

Stock reliability is key. If you want, you can add a bit more aggressive cam for a slight power increase, but the closer to stock you keep it the more reliable it is.

Not OBD1 compliant, was not required until 1991.

If you have a Snap-On "brick," and the right cartridge, you can view the stats in real time.

Good to know Mike, I just might have a mechanic friend who has one of these. Maybe. I'll check with Danny, Nick!
