Jim

"Teens" and below is my limit for "comfortable". Fortunately, the bite is not as bad here vs. the Midwest.

So much for the hardy Minnesotan! Me too, we moved to get away from these temps and it's warmer in MN than here right now.

Aaaaand my battery was dead this morning. I have the worst luck with electrical and cold temps. Got a good used optima in there now, had to install outside, it is no fun out there.

Nothing like a quick 3.6 mile run with the dog on a dark, snowy, 8*F evening to clear the mind and soul (and lungs and sinuses)... It was amazingly peaceful. One of my best runs since signing up for this 1/2 Marathon. Believe it or not, I got hot and came home sweaty! Had to shovel the drive way to 'cool off'... lol

I've been in the last 24 hours, somewhat under the weather, - but I'm itching to get out for a short ride around the area. It'd be nice for the "get back to normal" perspective.

Did anyone get more than about 6" of snow?

Chris

You're better than me Jackie! Barb did venture down the block to check for some mail she's been waiting for. Outside of that we stayed inside nudging up the thermostat.

To be fair... that was a personal record for coldest run ever. I've skied in 3*F weather, but an 8*F run was a lot more comfortable! lol

I've endured colder weather in MN, but note I left it 30 years ago for that very reason. I REALLY hate the cold.
But this is Colorado - so things will change quickly!

29 degrees in my garage this AM. Plans to insulate the wooden garage door tomorrow.

Had to pull down sheetrock (luckily, it was recently hung and not taped/mudded yet) as the cold water line for the shower slushed up Wed night... in the ceiling, in the garage.

It's cold!

Fixed the cold water freeze problem... not fighting hot water lines freezing up in same area. Ugh. I'm getting really good at dropping sheetrock and re-doing insulation. I think this time might have done it (installed air-dams in the joist pockets to block convective currents most likely coming from a cold spot near the sills/siding).

Ready for warmer weather!

This is kicking my old @ss - I doubt I'm the only one here with asthma but this deep freeze is a trigger. Bring back the warmer temps I want to breathe!

Jackie
December 8th, 2013, 07:14 PM
We've had the water dripping in our basement bathroom for a week now because the pipes are on an outside wall. Our furnace also went "partially "out on us a few days ago. If you kick it or hit it just right, it will blow hot air again - otherwise it blows cold. We had a tech from Brothers come to fix it today and he was honest enough to tell us that this 20 yr. old furnace is not worth fixing... So... $900 for a fix we "HOPE" will work or $5K for a new furnace.

Ummm... Summer is coming! I'll worry about this later!

x2. Normally cold weather exercise induced, but this crap is tough.

Spent the weekend working in the garage. Insulated the garage door with foil back R6 polystyrene sheets. 6 hours later, the snow/ice on the vehicles is FINALLY melting! Our garage has been below 32 for days. Here's hoping the pipes don't slush up again tonight.

Open your faucets enough for a drip and that should do it.

Yeah, I agree, but was actually trying not to do that. There clearly was something fundamentally wrong with the insulation around the piping in the ceiling of the garage... No way pipes in an insulated space should frost up above an insulated garage. Coldest we've seen in the garage this week was only 26F.

Iv always like north New Mexico !just spent some time in the Santa Fe area this summer, pretty nice area but I prefer Hawaii. I just asked Barb why the house seemed quiet - she said "the furnace isn't running!" WooHoo!
