The Bronco I just bought has a NP205 in it with a ratio of 196 (stamped on the tag), I am assuming that it would be 1:96 meaning 1 to 96. So what would would happen if you doubled two 205s together that had the same ratio? Or with a lower ratio? Just curious!

I am not sure what my spare has for a ratio and until the snow is gone I am not going out to try and find out what the ratio is on the second one.

Good question ! I'd like to know the same thing. I have a np205 passanger drop and was thinking the same.

I did a search about twin sticks in the 205 and looks like a worth wild mod!

the ratio is 1.96:1 basically 2:1 if you use double 205's then you would have 1:1, 2:1 and 4:1. but double 205's is not common at all, not sure if i have ever seen it done. however making a 203/205 doubler is very common and ends up with the same ratios as a 203 is also 2:1

Twin stick mod is very practical and seems like a lot of fun. I plan on doing it in the 77 when I get the new drivetrain swapped in. However in going to cheat and just use Bronco graveyards kit for it $100 gets you all the linkage and new shift rail. Haven't heard of double 205s but do hear a lot about 203/205s. Or people putting crawl boxes in front of the 205.

Just as the others have stated. It has a low range of 1.96:1. Not very low. Most common solution to getting lower gearing is to add the gear reduction part of a NP203. Works like a Toyota doubler setup does. They are pretty stout and can take a bit of horsepower. Check out Off Road Design for their 203/205 doubler kit. Great products and great staff. The twin stick setup is great. Allows 2wd low. Very handy. I use it the most in the Toyota on the trails around here.

205s don't have the front range box like the 203s so won't fit together. Far as I can find out, Off Road Design only has the kit for Chevy conversions,, and the low gear kit for Chevy 205s. I've read about using the Chevy gear kit in a Ford 205, but requires machining the case to make room for the bigger gears.

this may be useless as last i saw them they were very backlogged but there used to be a company that made a lower set of gears for a 205 ( was 3.xx to 1) which would give you just that little bit more over 2 to 1 added with the 203 planetary box gives some pretty good gears with good strength......again that gear set might be unavailable or have huge wait times to get

okay looking a few things up and it seems that ORD says yes the 3 to1 205 gear kit is available but only for chevy dodge 205s not ford AND it MUST have the new case as they do not fit in the stock case but the new case comes with the gears..........and it seems they can match any 203 and 205 :)

rough estimate somewhere from about 2K up to 4 K if you need to buy alot of parts and adapters over the minimum for the 3to1 205 a reg 205 can be cheaper close to about 1K to get a fully ready to go set up

And not terribly difficult! Just go slow and easy with the notching. The 205/205 doubler has been done on Pirate and there are a couple of write-ups on the process. You might be better off with a 203/205 doubler though, since you already have the good Ford 205 (32 spline input, front output and rear output). All you'd need is the gearbox (front half) off of a 203 and a doubler plate. It'd take up a lot less room.

You can buy the kit with shaft, or just the shifters. There was a good write-up on FSB on how to do the whole thing.

And front wheel drive as well.

Works for Ford 205's as well. The Ford cases are easier because the case is already drilled for the round pattern instead of the figure 8 if I remember correctly.

Adapter shown above is a Ford 203 to Ford 205 (#FU4001)

Lomax gearset for the 205. Was made by JB conversions, the guys that invented the 231 SYE! For the Cheby 205 only. ORD does sell the adapters for Ford 205's though.
