Found this, looks like he's put some thought into it. I don't have the expertise to have an opinion beyond "awesome"... anyone have any thoughts?

There are numerous threads on this on various sites and they're built by several companies. I've heard that they work very well, especially offroad. Looks very similar to most other designs. Should work as good or better then most others.

So it appears compared to a pintle hitch, this gets more longitudinal "twist" but more than about 45 degrees will tip the trailer anyways. The vertical and left/right are basically the same as a pintle. That said, other than less clunking, what are the advantages over a pintle?

I think that's the only real advantage, you get less clunking.

I'm just testing the waters before I commit to a lunette. I saw the lock and roll couplers, but they're just too much $$ for the amount I'd use it, so when I saw this for $50.00 I considered it. I need to make the lunette on the trailer swivel (the hitch is fixed) so I'll have to do a little fab anyway, so I'm looking for the best option. If anyone has a swiveling lunette, 2.5" that they want to part with I have some money I'd like to say goodbye to...

For 50$ it's a great setup and would tow smoother/quieter than a pintle. And it's pretty hard to switch over to a pintle setup for that price. I'll probably try this out when I build my little expo trailer.

Thinking of putting this setup on my pop up camper when I lift it.

I'm going with a pintle / lunette initially, I already have a combo ball / pintle end so it makes sense, but I'm going to build one of these as well. A lunette ring alone is about $40.00... http://www.easternmarine.com/75-ton-forged-steel-lunette-ring-w-nut-bdb12503

I have a combo pintle/ball hitch as well. Just sitting in a box waiting to bolt on to something. Haven't had a reason to swap anything to a pintle yet.
