Finally the stars aligned and allowed me to pick up my truck...
Shes going to stay "stock" for a while but I have dreams and plans for her. Granted she's last in line consider this one comes with a warranty :)
My new 2014 Tacoma Access Cab with a 4.0L V6 backed with a 6spd Manual. Did spoil myself a fair bit and got the nicer audio/nav package as well as the TRD Off-road package.
First thing is first thou and that is to get rid of these street tires and get some new rubber!
I'm looking at the new Cooper Discovery STT in 265/75/R16. Which is supposedly the largest tire you can fit 100% stock. Comes in right around 32" or so. Probably going to have to wait till my January Vacation check comes in.
Still sitting at the stealership singing my life away but here are some pics.

wooot.....finally got her huh? Congrats, that looks like an awesome truck. Love the color too. I think you'll be surprised how capable it is with just some better tires. Might think about putting some sliders on just to protect the rockers a bit since they are relatively cheap and easy to install but otherwise leaving it alone for a while seems like a good plan.

Nice ride Chris, let us know how it does. Don't get rid of the stock tires I know someone that can use them and we'll work out a price if you want to part with them when you get the new shoes.

I was actually planning on keeping the stock ones and selling then off to help offset the cost of new rubber. Will defiantly let you know when there coming off.

I am having an issue with getting my rear diff to lock up. I follow all the instructions in the manual.
1. Shift to 4LO
2. Press Clutch and Have vehicle in Neutral
3. Have vehicle stopped
And the light just flashes and flashes and never locks up. Anyone have any suggestions?

Did you move forward after hitting the diff-lock button? Sometimes it takes a second or two for the e-locker to lock, though it shouldn't. It should come on before you start moving. I did have a problem with mine for short time in Moab last year, but it finally started working again.
Might need to take it back to the dealership.

yes the truck has to move a couple of feet forward or backward so the coupler gear can move and in gage locking gear, My Tacoma (owned 10 yrs) always needs about 2 full revs of the tires then engages, never had a problem and always has worked (love my Taco) Hey when are you going to stop by again and say HI !!!

The way the Elocker acuator works is it turns a motor that tightens a spiral spring, which puts pressure on the a small tooth gear that makes contact with the locking mechanism (similar to a shift fork in t-cases and transmissions). When you activate the switch, it loads the spring. If the splines of the locking mechanism are lined up then it just pops right in, but if it isn't the spring keeps the pressure on till it lines up. Here is a picture of the inside of the actuator...
Excuse the dirt...its the only one I saw that showed the spring well

That is a complicated way of saying that you might need to move around a bit. I've found that having no load on the drivetrain is important too. I try to coast to a stop before activating it, but just letting it coast a bit usually does it too.
Its kind of a pain in the ass to setup honestly, so they might not have gotten it right at the factory. There is a specific order in which to install the actuator. I would hope the factory people would have it down, but who knows. If moving around a bit doesn't lock it in, then its probably worth taking it to the dealership since it should work this soon after delivery.

Thanks for the tips on rolling it around a bit. I had tried rolling, but maybe all of 5 or 6 feet and it would never seem to work. So after messing around and figuring out traction control today, I tried some of your suggestions, and sure enough everything worked just fine. Im loving the Tacoma more and more every day, but still disliking the amount of electronics and switches it has to make operate pre saftey era.

I was actually hoping to swing by sometime soon, granted you guys are a hell of a swing for me. But I am in need of some Chevy Part Collecting help and you and Robert have already done one of the conversions I am interested in. I also need to get some 73-87 Chevy C20 Knuckles/spindles to convert my Chevy over to front disc's.

I was just at the pull & pay in Colorado springs, seems to me there were some 73-87 2wd chevies there, Maybe Robert and I can go down next week end and look for your parts, heck last week end they had a 72 mustang in there that I got all my door linkages out of ( nobody makes after market) for my73 mustang rag top. As far as the 5 spd , there is a nv4500 2wd unit for sale on craigs list right now, well last weekend. We will help with all the info we have on the swap.
