I have a leaking front crank seal in my Bronco. It is leaking pretty bad when sitting. Anyone know how to repair one of these things. I do know the Timing cover does not have to be removed. I don't have the pullers or other tools to do this. HELP!!!!

What engine?
javaman34
January 16th, 2014, 06:41 PM
It has a 302 EFI engine. I've done this seal once before, but the family member that helped me has moved away and he had all the cool tools that made it as easy as pie. I like pie.

I have the puller for the harmonic balancer. It might be quicker to reserve the loan-a-tool at your local auto parts.

If it's leaking that bad & has been replaced before the crank's surface is probably worn. You can get the seal in a kit, with a stainless steel sleeve to slip over the crank snout. That way the seal has a smooth, even surface to seal against. You have to clean the snout real good to get the sleeve on, but not real hard to do. Should come with instructions. Good luck.

I'll bring it down to your place to have it done. LOL

C'mon down! But would be expensive, gas both ways, food (steak & trimmings), beer, tool rental, portable TV rental (must watch Broncos tomorrow afternoon), etc. If you can bring Mike and his tools it would go much faster. lmao

I can bring a beer, a steakum sandwich, and a transistor radio for the game.

Well, my expectations are: steak, et al, from Outback (curbside takeaway will do), case of Stella Artois, Mike for consultation (previous also for him), a good TV, you bring a good puller and needed parts, and be willing to do most of the work. I will install the sleeve during half-time or commercials providing you have the crank cleaned & ready. Personally, I feel like this would be an excellent opportunity for you to learn something new, and beneficial to your Bronco at a very reasonable cost. And you need to be here before kick-off at 1:00 PM. If I get settled into my recliner before you arrive the deals off for the sleeve part, I still expect Mike & I to visit & enjoy the food & Stella while watching the game, while you figure how to get-r-done.
This is the most BS I have written on this forum ever! lol

OK, you can carry my 36" TV out to the driveway from the second floor, don't worry about bringing one. And Mike & I will need recliners too. OK?

Aww, c'mon! Mike & I need a good meal tomorrow (at least I do, don't know Mike's plans). I won't be available next weekend, I have to get out & find a wheel for my GFs Prius.

But, it's a Prius. Just buy a couple of rubber bands and tell her to put them around the rim.

If it cost more than a AAA membership, its a waste of money.

Then if he can't get it fixed I'll have to load it on the trailer & haul it back to his house. Not part of the deal either, that would cost extra, even for taking you back to Golden at his expense.

I'm saving the work until next weekend. Father-in-law has the tools and a huge heated garage to work in and he said I could bring it over next weekend. He should have it cleared by then. So Nanner Nanner Nanner.:2thumbup:

Well, I guess the consultant wandered off to bed, so can't count on him(you know how these 60 somethings are). Maybe I will be in the neighborhood next weekend looking for a Prius wheel. Now if you should happen on a Prius wheel and 2 hubcaps for a 2011, I could work out something. Any of your neighbors have a Prius they wouldn't miss a wheel from you could lay your hands on before then?

That is why you need to get the information first. If nothing else, we can hit the Apple Ridge Cafe for L&O.
