I had a good experience today with Metal Supermarkets at 11405 I-70 Frontage Road North (between Kipling and Ward). 303-424-1030. http://www.metalsupermarkets.com/stores/wheat-ridge/
Its clean inside like a rental car office, and everyone was nice. Great customer service- I had a LOT of questions. They have a discount scrap /cut rack for little pieces (got two!), it's in the pics. They can make straight and miter cuts, and no piece is too small. I asked about some small pieces for brackets and was told they would sell me an inch if that's what I needed. Measure twice- no returns on cut material.

I got quotes from Metal Supermarkets, Altitude Steel and MetalsDepot.com. I posted MS' receipt so you can see what I got for $155.80. They would deliver it to aprox. 29th and Sheridan for $20.00. The same order from Metalsdepot.com is $193.10 plus $51.72 shipping. Altitude only gave me a quote for 3 of the 4 pieces (my omission) so $155.80 minus that piece @$18.25 is $137.55; Altitude wanted $148.00 for the same. No idea if they deliver.

I actually just tired them out a couple weeks ago. My normal suppliers were out of a certain size of DOM and I started calling around. They ended up matching my normal suppliers pricing and then delivering the next day all the way up here in Longmont, for free. Great customer service. I asked If they would deliver to residential addresses as well since they came in a normal 3/4 ton truck with a rack. They said they would. Overall my experience was good and I am sure I will try them again.

IMHO, if they can continue to keep stock of and match pricing of the local competitors, they should do very well as they are the only ones in Colorado to deliver to residential areas, and to normal people off the street without having a business.

I heard about them from ExplorerTom in this thread: http://www.frontrange4x4.com/forums/showthread.php?20575-MetalsDepot-com-Prices&p=252265#post252265

So that's 3 of us that have had good luck with them. :thumb:

I too had a good experience there, and about three miles from my house. I asked them if they did small amounts and the answer was "that's our specialty". I'll go back for sure.

Got this from MS, all for $23.45. :thumb:

6" of 6"x6"x3/8" angle, 3' of 3"x3"x3/16", 18" of trailer receiver stock and two 1/8" flat scraps from the cut rack.

I'm starting with the coupler, it will attach to the tounge (2"square) with two grade 8 bolts. You can see what I have in mind, the lunette will actually go through the angle above the tube with some additional brackets and a short greaseable tube. The 3x3 and flat pieces are for brackets.

Scored again at MS, from the scrap pile (actually they don't like the word scrap, they prefer "drops" and will correct you...) I got a 3/8" thick 6" x 18" plate for $13.81. They had a ton of "drops" from thin plate to channel over a foot wide, all shapes too. Cool place. :thumb:

I went there a couple of weeks ago and picked up a 10x8 sheet of aluminum. I paid 1$ Customer service was great, and they had tons (literally) of stuff to choose from!
I will be going back when I start my roof rack and other projects.
