I think you'll have plenty of time to plan, I doubt Rollins Pass will be open for a while.

If it's the spot I'm thinking of it has been rerouted so you go through the creek and not parallel to it. It just got too washed out and flopping into the creek was a real danger.
I have lots of old pics of the trail but not one of that spot that I can find.

That crossing used to look like this before the bridge completely dissapeared.

I did Jenny Creek about 2 weeks after the flood. The flood did very little to the trail. I love Jenny Creek, hate Rollins Pass Road potholes though!

This was in 2011. The second pic is of the rutted section just past the creek - looking back. The creek is visible on the far right edge a little above the middle of the pic. Not long after this point the creek takes over the trail in a couple spots. We went early in the season and had to winch up the big snow drift at the end. Jenny is a cool trail, but the road getting up to it definitely sucks.

SCRubicon, whenever I see a cool picture on the main forum page where it says: "Random Photos From Member Albums", 8 times out of 10 it's one of yours.

I used to get out a lot. The past two seasons not so much. (new toys) I have so many pics that it is hard to keep track of them. ;)

SCRubicon your next to the last picture looks like it might be the spot the original poster is talking about. If so that edge used to be the trail. You got real tippy and tight going over that tree root.

Kind of like stuffing the ballot box, you need to add more of your own Max and you can be the random star!

I'm in for a run once the snow melts. It looks like a pretty trail.

Chris

It looks like a pretty SHORT trail.

Fixed it for you! It's not only short but the drive on Rollins feels 3x longer than it is. Any run of Jenny Creek should include another trail to make it worthwhile IMHO.

I hate Jenny Creek trail, just because of that nasty washboard road you have to drive up and down when doing that trail.

IIRC there was a Rover group that went up a week or two before me. There were some really bad washouts they could barely navigate. At one point I slid off and almost tipped.

Jenny Creek is fun and worth doing. Washboard road is kinda crappy, but if you air down in Rollinsville and keep up your speed to even out the bumps its not too bad. Brucker and I had a good time on it last year, despite my truck almost leaving me stranded on the way back down the "washboard" section. I'll be interested to see if and how it has changed with the flood conditions last year.

I ran it twice last summer and in July it was horrible then again in a while later and they graded the road and fixed quite a bit on it. It was no where near as bad but then the flooding happened so who knows now.

The road is not "washboard", it's a war zone minefield. The potholes are random and large. If it was a true washboard road, you could eventually get used to it. That road is a nightmare trying not to it any of the holes going too fast.

Sounds... pleasant.:erm:

I know a guy who tipped and landed in the creek - not a fun day for him. But he got winched back up and out...

haha....we definitely have differing views of what a minefield is. Last time I was up there, we were doing 30+ mph the whole way down. Sure, you have to keep an eye out for the big holes and rocks and slow down for those, but the majority of that road isn't bad at speed. I'm kind of a speed freak though, and seem to have a higher tolerance for a rough ride though. In my experience though, if you drive slow you feel every little bump and rut in the road, but if you drive at a faster speed you just feel the big ones since the tires gap over the smaller bits.

Seriously though....air your tires down and back up in Rollinsville....makes that road MUCH more comfortable. By airing down I don't mean take them from 50 to 35 psi....I mean take them down to at least under 20psi, and 10-15 (or even less with beadlocks) helps even more.

but if you drive at a faster speed you just feel the big ones since the tires gap over the smaller bits. The only way to drive that road...Last time we were up there Kaleb and did that exact thing then had to wait for the rest catch up...cant take it driving slow

Funny... the drive OUT on the other hand Rick I recall I didn't go quite as quick ;)

I need to get up there, that was the last time I did that trail, and it was the last straw for that rig!

Not sure what it is, but aired to 13/14 or so, and going 30mph, I actually find the road enjoyable... it's a challenge to avoid the big hits, and keep your speed up so the little stuff doesn't suck. Just got to punch it a bit, that's all!! :D
