Tnsejed
March 13th, 2014, 09:27 PM
I'm not sure how the Denver guys get there but if your coming through the Woodland Park area meeting in Divide or Florissant would work. I've only done Hackett Gulch myself but i got there from Divide.

It also might be fun to run Longwater and/or Hackett s well. They are all in close proximity.

javaman34
March 13th, 2014, 09:36 PM
Ok. I need to do a little more research, but I'm shooting for the 5th.

Might be going up to check out the gulches this weekend. If I do, I will post up reports so that you all know what it looks like. If I go this weekend I probably won't make it for the FR run :( It is a 3+ hour drive from my place so this is not an easy trip for me to make.

:thumb: Robert will take care of ya....If your meeting down there by 9am I would leave your place no later than 7:30 am...Just a a thought. You will enjoy Metberry....Hackett and Longwater you could do but be careful...If your not comfortable dont do it......not the trails but anything......most of all enjoy....I do think you'll like the area..

Geno
March 15th, 2014, 10:54 PM
Robert has run all 3 of those trails many ,many times, Yes his first trip to long water was when he was about 9 months old. I/we have always come in from the Divide side. right turn at light,(downtown Divide) 3 miles down that road, right turn on (CR51) Cedar mountain road, 7 miles to intersection (CR51 & CR3), parking for truck and trailers on right side ( Matt parked his tow rig here last Spring when he came own to pull my TJ out of Hackett with the blown motor) then straight across intersection (stay on CR51) about 5 miles to Hackett turn off and mile or 2 more to Longwater turn off and another mile or 2 to Mettberry coming from divide. This is the quickest way from the springs. I have been wheeling these 3 trails since 1981. :2c:

javaman34
March 15th, 2014, 10:56 PM
I have been wheeling these 3 trails since 1981.

So is meeting at the trail head the best place for everyone to meet up? Rick suggested a Fire Station.

Geno
March 15th, 2014, 11:15 PM
We always met at Safeway in Woodland park, we had friends in WP go with us. I only did the north side once in the late 1980s. The south side is the best for trailers, road is graded up till CR3 and CR51 intersection, north side CR360/51 runs through the burn area and that road has a lot of ruts and tight turns.

javaman34
March 15th, 2014, 11:37 PM
I sure hope I didn't bite off more than I could chew with this one. Rick said my Bronco would be able to do it, so I'm taking his work for it. I guess if it doesn't, he can come and bail me out. :lmao:

Geno
March 15th, 2014, 11:46 PM
you should be fine on metberry, if you walk through it, do Hackett, we all came out at 1am no problem when I broke the motor, I did Hackett with no motor power, Matt was pulling me, my nephew did Hackett in a 2 door s-10 4x4 blazer with 31s and a torsion crank lift and rear spring of only 1.5 inch last year.

javaman34
March 15th, 2014, 11:48 PM
I just get a little over cautious on a trail I've never been on. Try to get all the information I can before I get there. If I don't think I can do it, I won't. No reason to take chances.

Geno
March 15th, 2014, 11:53 PM
Safety first always, if in dought, Robert has a great winch and has been taught well on how to use it, Dave (WWAVG) looks like he is going also , he is experienced on these trails, I am still a maybe, but I might also be on this trip, have to see work schedule .

Tnsejed
March 16th, 2014, 08:57 AM
Being cautious is a good thing. I think you could make Hackett unassisted with proper tire placement. The other two trails I haven't run yet

March 16th, 2014, 09:12 AM
Metberry is pretty mellow, you should have no problems there. You really get to see the burn area.
Coming from Denver or the north I think it's easiest to take 67 out of Sedalia down. You can meet others in Sedalia, Deckers or at the fire station in Westcliff. It is shown on the map I posted in the other thread.
Then you can meet any Springs people at the trailhead.

Here's a Patriot on Metberry, so it's easy enough for a stock SUV on what look like street tires. They put a strap on it on the way up, but it doesn't look like it really needs it.

this is longwater, starting about 1/2 way in.

This a Hackett, all the way out from the end. It's a long video, if you go to his page he has the trip in broken into separate videos.

I know the old Bronco can do it, my biggest concern is it is the family vehicle. The only thing we have that can transport everyone. I don't want to tear it up.

Rick
March 16th, 2014, 11:38 AM
I guess if it doesn't, he can come and bail me out.you will do fine on Metberry..I bet you could damn near get a car down that trail

That's good. From all the videos I've seen it looks pretty good. Besides, I wouldn't want my Badass Ford being pulled out by a Dodge anyway (good natured ribbing there). :steer:

I've done my research. Trust me. I've seen I don't know how many videos from You Tube and numerous pictures. I will still be very cautious just because I have never been on the trail, but I do think I won't have a problem. Now for the $50,000 question: When are you going to be able to get out and where?

Rick
March 16th, 2014, 11:52 AM
When are you going to be able to get out and where?I get Aprils schedule for work next week and from there I can see....I am usually very flexible with my schedule...This one almost got me into trouble....
