I recommend OruxMaps for a great GPS software that you can make your own custom maps for too (oh, and its a free app too).

Looking good and I've found my Nexus 7 tablet to be very useful for that same service. That mounting system looks a lot nicer then the suction cup thing I have going on right now too.

I've been looking for a good app for this reason (on my Android) and have tried quite a number of them.

The easiest, most user friendly, app I've found is MyTrails - and I went as far as purchasing the full version.

It is super simple to import a track and then save an offline map around that track. It has many map sourcing options too, so you can save various map formats (satellite/topo/etc). You can also log tracks very easily.

AlpineQuest has been good. The maps are all great. The layering is simple. Recording and stopping said recording isn't the easiest. It was $10. I'm planning to load some free ones. And I may load Back Country Navigator too. It will definitely get more use this summer. And in fall for hunting.
