went up to Guenella Pass(Duck Creek) today to go shoot my Pistol and was informed you can no longer shoot there.Got about a 1/4 mile up the turn off at Duck Creek and came across a stuck Cherokee (rental car)Tryed to go around it and got my self stuck....3' deep with lotsa ice under it...Bailey towing showed up to get the Jeep and got me out fairly quick but then he told me that no shooting clear to Kenosha Pass, said it went through last month..Just thought I would put this out so nobody gets into trouble......Though no signs posted anywhere.....The guys at Bailey towing are some great guys...I was getting myself out but they made it much quicker.....

Is this word of mouth or is there an official posting somewhere?

That seems to cover bombs (explosives) and not ammunition.

I'd like to see more clarification to it.

Oh, and it's "for our safety"... :rolls eyes:

Could a bullet being fired fall into the "explosion" category?

The Flume article, visible to non-subscribers, says this:
U.S. Forest Service unveils new rules for target shooting

Since last month, target shooters in the Pike and San Isabel National Forests faced new target choice restrictions according to Jerri Marr, forest supervisor, Pike and San Isabel National Forests.

Marr signed order PSICC-2014-01 on March 3.

According to the order, the purpose is to protect public health and safety, and natural resources.

I looked up that PSICC number and came up with these (both look to be the same document):

Of particular note is that particular targets are needed and are defined. When looking at the map, in the PDF, there is one, somewhat large area, that is closed to shooting - and that may be the area Rick was in / was notified of.

Huh, that would just suck. Going to have to look into it for sure. So far the links in this thread only revolve around prohibiting exploding targets. Then again there is that map Jim pointed out. I'll have to look at some of my detailed maps to figure it out.

Here's a better look at the area from the map pdf. I marked Fairplay, Salida, Canon City and Colorado Springs with red boxes. The red zones on the pdf map appear to be to the south and east of Pine, one smaller one above Bailey and a little red slice down 285 past Bailey - near the Heckendorf Ranches Georgia Pass Ranch/Jefferson Lake Road.
