Hey guys i'm going to keep this short and simple.
Im looking for a full width chevy dana 44 rear axle, 67" wms, 6 lug. Gearing doesn't matter. Looking for a cheap used axle.
If anyone has leads, knows of a friend who has one for sale, one sitting at the junk yard. Even if you find on on craigs. I NEED LEADS!
Thanks!

from what i know on chevy that axle is going to be in very old trucks if it was even used , only as the blazer never had one (burb in same thing i believe) so will be hard to find lol any reason specifically want the 44 ?

I cant find the gearing that I want in a 12 bolt. From what I have heard a 10 bolt is worthless. Not sure if they have 14 bolt 6 lug rears.
Im trying to stay 6 lug, I like the options that are available for the dana 44. I don't have the money for a dana 60. Just a couple of reasons

the 10 bolt is nearly identical to a 44 ......i own a bunch of both lol ....the 14 bolt SF came in 6 lug and what ratio you need it seems the 12 bolt has every ratio under the sun lol

I was planning on buying an axle then re-gearing to 5.13. I might consider 4.88 gearing. I have 4.30 right now and if I were to go to 35s I would be one slow rodeo.

hhmm i can find both 4.88 and 5.14 those in 12 bolt all the way up to 6.14 lol but i believe only the 14 bolt SF from 88 and newer were 6 lug so not sure how many were made or what the WMS is ..i only have 4.11 in my blazer atm on 35s lol and i have had it to 3 digit speeds following some truckers before

Hmm, where are you finding these gears for the 12? I must be looking in all of the wrong places.

well supposing it is the 8.875 ring gear and has the same carrier most of what i look at does say car 12 bolt so i might be off there but i thought they were the same in the center http://www.drivetrain.com/parts_catalog/ring_and_pinions/gm_8.875_ring_and_pinions.html#RingPinionsRatiosAv ailable and the only difference i see in the front 10 bolt vs 44 is the 44 axles diameter is 0.02 bigger (same at 12 bolt) and the front 10 bolt is wider just for chevys different tracking pattern so its more what you can find and the 14 SF is the biggest and strongest but might be real hard to find not sure

A 89 and later 10 bolt is stronger than a d44. Super cheap to build.

Hmm, i may just get a 10 bolt. Everyone says i will toast one quick, but I cant see 35s and 175 hp blowing any kind of axle.

its not the HP but the torque and other forces usually, I know guys with 4 cylinder yotas breaking 44s all day because they have double transfer cases and super low gears which takes the under 100 hp and tiny torque and multiplies it many many times over..... but yes I ran an old beat up and wore out set of ten bolts that had some major issues my dad and I patched up to get by and they still worked just fine for almost 3 years before my current set was found and my truck has more hp and much more torque and weight than yours does...... you will be running deeper gears than I did but if you don't do clutch sidesteps all the time should last for a long time ........ im not sure about the newer ones being stronger than a 44 but I do know the 88 and up went to 30 spline (up from 28) which matched the 44s and there are a TON of 10 bolts in the springs junkyards and they make a billion parts and upgrades for them ......I may even still have spare parts in the shed that don't do me any good anymore lol ...... a lot of the jeep guys use 10 bolts to get full width since they are everywhere and cheap to build

i want clarification on the 89 and up 10 bolts that are to be stronger are these the ones they put in the tahoes and those trucks since i helped someone with one and the outer bearing was a completely different design so thats the only thing i could think of for it being stronger..... far as i know everything from a k5 or burb is the same for the 10 bolts minus the step up to 30 spline from 28 in the 89+ axles according to the specs
