I did not know that a Rubicon 44 isn't really that much of a upgrade still uses the same shafts from a Dana 30 only really gaining a larger ring gear. Unless its a JK 44 lol.

The inner shafts are 30 spline like a D44 but the outers are 27 spline like the D30. This is on TJ and LJ Rubicons. So the hubs and outer stub shafts are interchangeable with a D30.
It's a hybrid!

tubes are still thicker and so are the axle shafts........plus once i sleeve gusset and truss it will be as strong as a dana 60

oh and add chromoly axle shafts

Aren't rubicon D44 low pinion as well?

03-06 Rubicon D44's are low pinion.

pretty sure the axle tubes are the same size and thickness as a dana 30. and i don't care how much trusses and gussets you put on it that axle will never be as strong as a dana 60

Been googling i think ur right redneck not 100 percent on that though. I just find it odd ujoint, bascially everything ball joint out is dana 30.

g2 axles and the trailready dynatrac uses the housing as well just in the high pinion style. that blew me away

I can't add much to this other then saying people are a bit quick to throw axle trusses on IMHO. Its one thing if you need it for your link suspension or something, but I personally prefer to let the axle flex a bit then put a stiff truss on that concentrates all of the stress at once place (where the truss ends).

I also was skeptical of the "trusses and chromoly shafts and its as strong as a 1 ton" comment too. You still have a much larger ring and pinion, plus the knuckles and such are much beefier. You also have to consider that you spend all that money to get it Dana 60 strength and its not gonna get any stronger, and that is just the starting point with the 60. Still, a stock Dana 60 is probably good for 40's as long as you aren't balls to the walls with it, so its probably good enough.

even a full built dana 44 like i have in my jeep will never be as strong as a dana 60. mine is a hp44 with thick tubes, chromo shafts and ctm u-joints. it still uses the same size u-joint as a dana 30. a spicer 297/760 joint. with a 30 spline inner shaft and 19 spline stubs. a stock 60 has 1.5" 35 spline inners and 30 spline stubs. 35 spline stubs are readily available. and a much larger u-joint than 30/44. thats said a rubi 44 is stronger than a stock tj30. and marginally stronger than a hp30. as far as trusses go imo on a small axle like a dana 30 i would say a full truss will add quite a bit of strength as the center section on a dana 30 is pretty weak and flexes alot. this flexing of the housing is what causes alot of gear failures as it lets the pinion move away from the ring gear enough to break teeth. a truss and a good diff cover will significantly reduce the amount of flex in the center section

i was wrong with the dynatrac its the g2 that does it

i believe those rubi axles are also the ones that have the super tall "C"s on them ...the part where the ball joint goes through on the tube and they have big problems of bending and breaking with tires barely over stock ...i personally do not know why they call it a 44 lol it seems to be very short of one

for their intended purpose rubicon axles are fine. but they aren't the end all be all of axles. that said a friend of mine has broken both stock rubicon air lockers with just 33's. but he isn't afraid to use the skinny pedal.

oh yes they work but what i think pissed everyone off is they bear the 44 name and do not have the strength of a 44 so many would treat tham as 44s and run tires up to 35s (which a 44 will take all day ) but the rubi 44 has issues with those and as you say even smaller ones .........do they work? yes ... is the name very misleading? yes ...... okay im done taking over your thread lol
