Ok so this is the first winch that I had ever owned. I know that you are to un-spool it and then winch it back in under load. I think the wife would get pretty mad it I hooked it up to her pilot. Any suggestions on how else I could get this accoplished?

If you're making the cleanup you'll find plenty of trucks to hook it up to Shane.

I use my Honda wagon - parking brake on - with trans in neutral (so there can be no chance of issue with the parking pawl in the trans - not that there would be) and connect to it. I pull the jeep towards the car (flat surface). No worries.

You could find "a post" - those posts that block driving "there" and use that.

In both cases, you'll want a ~120' space from your anchor point to the back of the truck (when I respool under some tension I do the whole spool - less about four-six wraps).

Well since she is 69 and only weighs about 120 lbs she would be going for a ride!

I was planning on it but up until tonight Abriana has a 4H archery shoot and I wont be able to address the rear ball joint until tomorrow. Would rather fix it before a run than having brake on a trail run.

Any industrial areas near you? I found one of those ocean going shipping containers in a parking lot and it had a solid anchor point on it. I went over after work when the lot was empty and hooked up!

None that I can think of. Will have to think about what is around me. My old work van would have been perfect express 2500!

The recovery hook on the pilot would work fine. It doesn't have to be super tight. The object is to wind it tight enough to prevent the line on top from pinching down below the next row and getting stuck. Just pull yourself in to the pilot (it has recovery hooks for a reason) with the e-brake about half engaged. Wind the spool from side to side keeping each time around tight to the previous one.
