Have any FJ owners out there had issues with their cv boots getting torn up? I just replace the front passenger side axle two weeks ago and did middle saint vrain on Saturday. When we were done and I was reconnecting the sway bar links, I was disappointed to see that the brand new cv boot had been shredded. Is this just due to uncoupling the sway bar in order to get more articulation? I dont want to have to drop $80 on a new axle every time I go offroad. I was thinking of just driving till the cv joints start to make noise then do the replacement. Any ideas?

I have a 4Runner so our suspensions is pretty much the same and I haven't had any CV boot tears yet. Mine are making noise but at 170K I'm not surprised so I'd suspect the sway bar disconnects but it's just a guess since I tossed my sway bar years ago.

Which boot? My 4Runner inner boot blew from too much flex. I got replacements from CVJ that are supposed to allow more travel. I hope they last. It's only been a week so the jury is still out. :steer:

It's only my outer boots that are causing a problem.
