Well brought home yet another parts vehicle to add to my collection. And boy is it ugly. But it runs and drives well and offers some very nice parts. And for the price, I couldn't say no. Besides, it's supposed to hold 6 comfortably!

1988 Ford F350, FI460 V8, C6 auto, BW1356 Tcase feeding a HP KP D60 front with 35 spline chromo shafts throughout with Warn drive flanges, hydro assist, a Lincoln locker, and 5.13 gears. Rear axle is a Sterling 10.25 full float 35 spline with 5.13's and a Lincoln locker. Tires are almost new 42-15-15 SS TSL SX II. Front is leaf sprung and rear is 4 link with coils. Has a Ramsey 9K pound winch on the front.

Thinking about dropping it into Indy before I part it out, just to see what it can do. I have seen photos of it there and in Montrose. This thing is a HUGE and is a beast. Makes the 42's look tiny. Would be interesting seeing it work on the rocks.

Curtious beast.

Seats six... Sell tickets for rides and start turning cash!

When you run Indy, let me know. Im only 13miles from it. Could come out and give you moral support.

Ooo, decent idea! At $1 per ride, it would only take a couple thousand trips to pay it off ;-)

Got any heavy equipment we could use to pull this beast out of the canyon if we break it?

I have to admit there is someone about being able to spin a set of 42's at will that makes me smile. Still a little power left in her, that's for sure.

That would be fun to see it in Indy.

I agree....I'm game for a trip down to Indy in the near future.

That defnitely looks like a good donor rig for something pretty badass, and knowing your skills I'm sure it will come to fruition. I guess you just need to find time in your busy schedule to build it.

Well we may get our wish after all. Finally found a little time to go through the rig a somewhat. The wheel/tire combo didn't fit the front well (rubbed on leaf springs when wheels were turned) and the front clip was really hammered. But other than that it seems to all function. So I used the overhead shop hoist to pull the sides of the front clip/fenders back closer to their original home. And then I added a set of 2" wheel spacers we had laying around onto both sides of the front end. And once that was completed we went through and inspected all the suspension and steering fittings and hardware to make sure they were tight. Which almost none were. But now it turns lock to lock with ease.

Here it is with the new stance and with the front clip slightly better lined up:

So with the little bit of work done to it, I thought we should flex it out to see what we were dealing with. Rear did decent, while the front left a lot to be desired.

Rear flex out to about 39" before any tire started to lift.

Front was kinda pathetic (quite honestly the little blue shop truck out flexes this thing, and it's on leafs all round, small tires, and has a smaller wheel base). Would only allow for around 33" of upward travel before wanting to lift a tire.

So long story short, it's ready to "wheel" as it ever was. Now I just need to make myself comfortable with the fact that it could be a LONG day getting that beast back off the trail if/when I break it. I know the little blue shop truck probably wouldn't be enough to pull it out all by itself. So if there is enough interest in running it through somewhere like Indy, I'd be game if there were a couple other "heavy" rigs going as well.

More linke $15 to $25 (heck, depending upon the trail... $50)

Then there's the legal bit:
I'm liable for nothing. You are liable for everything. Sign Here: ___________ and Get In. Sit Down. Buckle Up!

LOL - I am not a lawyer

Oh, $2000 overhead / $40 ticket price = 50 tickets. And it seats 5 paying. Ten rides at full attendance.

EDIT: Heck, for the low cost of two twenties, I'd find it a great value to ride in someone else's rig for something like Indy (while "some day" I'll take mine to Indy, I might see repair costs (and repair time) in excess of $40!).

Lol, I like the way you think!

I am in the process of setting up a run in which I will be able to try this thing out. Will probably end up as just a really long day on the trail dragging it over the rocks all day, but who knows? Now just need to find a time I can get out of the shop for a full day...
