This year with my mom we camped at Halfmoon Creek for our annual trip to Leadville. I wanted to run the trail since we were no more the 5 minutes down the road. It was a good fun trail that I would like to go back to again with my truck and some other people. We only made it about half way to the second water crossing before it started to rain and we wanted to play it safe being that it was just us in her Liberty. The Liberty held its own, there was one spot that was a little gnarly that I hit strait on realizing was not a smart idea but when in doubt gas er out and we were on our way. If you are looking for somewhere to camp this is a great spot lots of designated camping spots and lots of nondesignated ones all along the dirt road leading up to and the trail itself. Also if you want to get to the Mt. Elbert North trail head or either Mt. Massive trail head they are both along the dirt road.
Beginning of the trail.

Fairly easy til you hit the fork between 110 and 110J

The fork. It was fairly easy til this point you could make it in a sedan but after the fork it gets semi-gnarly along 110. I do want to go back and try 110J

The first water crossing. It is deeper then it looks

Can't go that way!

Here is the spot that gave the Liberty some trouble. The pictures don't do it justice for the poor jeep but I was able to get a Xterra taking the easier line and making us look like chumps.

And last but not least our trail damage.
