Wonder if that setup would work on a jk with stock front bumper.

Nice! I'm eager to hear how the install goes and how you like it.

got it installed today, aside from fitting the "universal" mounting plate it was easy as pie. The wiring is all color coded, there's only 4 of them, a ground and the wires to the battery. and a small circuit breaker that attaches to the positive side.
I had to drill the universal plate to fit my Jeep. It's 36" across, about 7" deep. My Jeep is an LJ, but up front it's identical to a TJ. The wrangler from 1997-2006. WhyTF would anyone sell a "Universal" plate with a million holes in it, none that fit a TJ? In the USA?!? Thanks for listening.
The winch looks great, the only part that looks a little cheesy is the hook, otherwise it seems well built and it bolted right up to the plate. The wiring was simple. In the second to last photo you can see a black line drawn across the front of the plastic sway bar cover with "Jeep" embossed on it, I cut it there with tin snips to fit behind the plate.

Thanks for the coupon. A good trick with the HF coupons that I have learned is if you search for a little while on google you can find an image of a reusable 25%. I find this and download it to my pictures on my phone so when I go in I always have the coupon handy. I'm going to do some research on the Smittybuilt and see what people have to say. ive read some good things about them in passing on the net. I would save for a Warn but I may never use the thing. i have a winch on my rzr that I have never had to use.

Get the wireless controller to go with the winch, very handy.
