Any body have any experience with emissions testing and purchasing a vehicle out of state (non-emissions state)? I know in Colorado the seller is supposed to provide a passing emissions test for a sale. If I buy from a non-emissions state am I just rolling the dice as to whether or not it will pass?

That would be correct. If buying from out of state you will be responsible. Make sure the vehicle has all the factory equipment and runs well, and emissions should be a breeze.

plus you have to have a vin verification done. basically you pay $20 for a guy to walk out to your ride and make sure the vin matches the title.

Yup, knew about the VIN verification.

Thanks Aaron, that's what I thought.

Actually, I believe that if you even buy a vehicle from a county in Colorado, the emissions only applies if emissions is required in that county. So if you buy on the eastern plains, or in the mountains, again you are on your own.

As for the vin verification, many dealers will do that for you at no charge. I got my truck vin verification at Autonation Toyota on Arapahoe Road just off I-25. Just a good will gesture from them.

Last I heard (and it has been awhile), is that your local P.D. or County Sheriff will do a VIN verification for free.

Got my truck and Boat from AZ and JeffCo Sheriffs came to my home and did the VIN verification for free and let me schedule when they showed up(within reason)And like others said, you are responsible for emissions if from out of state

Neither Parker PD nor Englewood would do a VIN verification for us when we moved back from TX, but Lone Tree was on our doorstep before we even got the vehicle off the trailer when we bought one in Indiana a few years ago. I think it depends on where you are and who you ask.

The emissions place also does Vin verification while doing the emissions.

Parker PD is too busy writing tickets on Parker Rd for people driving 5 over, gotta keep us safe from those criminals
