These would be a cool swap, and they have removable 3rds to make for easy gear swaps. :)

Oh man, If I could weld, or wrench better, My Runner would be on Portals! That and TDI swap are on my dream list.

Ha! Found those myself off CL. Picking them up from him in the morning. Seem to be in decent shape but need a few things. One major (costly) item is brakes. But considering the next cheapest set I have found is $3200 and out of state...

COOL.

I have a thing for portal's - nice diff raise w/o going huge tires.

Interesting, I look at them in the exact opposite way... Gives the ability for large tires with exceptional ground clearance. Without having to use much/ if any suspension lift. Leaving you with great to cog!

Glad someone snagged them. I don't have a use for them or I would have picked them up.

Picked them up this morning. I don't have a use for them yet either, but I couldn't pass up the deal. Really thinking about putting them into the little blue shop truck. But may just sell them for a profit...

Did someone say portal? Just look at the offset!

Congrats.

Are the axle end gears 1:1?

Congrats.

Are the axle end gears 1:1?

These are the C303 axles so they have a 2.06 reduction within the portal gears. So has a final axle ratio of 5.99:1 (11 tooth pinion x 32 tooth ring gear = 2.90909 differential gearing multiplied by the 2.06 reduction = 5.992727) at the wheels.

Thx.

Ah, so that makes the pinion a larger diameter and thus stronger.

That axle end ratio adds another, and rare, variable into vehicle setup (tire diameter, axle ratio, diff ratio, and up the line to the crankshaft)

If you swap these into an existing rig that didn't have the axle end reduction, what changes would the vehicle need - or would you want the reduction as-is? You'd cut the ground speed (for a set engine speed) in half - though you could be putting on larger tires to somewhat offset the gear reduction.

Think of them like having deep gears in any other axle. These just have to different places in which they get reduced. So yes, you would need to compensate for the deep gears with larger tires.

Nice score! That was a deal. In something lightweight like the shop truck, those would be killer!
