I was initially planning on a wild 3600 mile road trip this winter. May still do that, I keep going back and forth on that one. But the back up plan is to find a hard to get to and possibly somewhat primitive cabin to rent for a long weekend to unwind. I have no issue snow shoeing or cross country skiing to the location. And I might just do some camping. But a nice cabin with a fire would rock for catching up on some reading.

Does anyone have an idea on how to find this? Google has found one or two close to that but nothing that really rustles my jimmies.

I used to xc ski into an old mining cabin off Browns pass just west of Mt Antero near Cottonwood pass in the late 1970's. It was open to the public. Had wood stove and cooking stove and outhouse plus clean water. Don't know if its still standing or not. Elevation is 11,700. And it takes about 1.25 days to get to in the winter. One night on the way in it was -13. Good gear required.

state forest state park in gould has some primitive cabins but you can drive up to them. have a wood stove but only electricity is a single solar charged light. they also have some yurts that you can rent that you have to hike/ski/snowshoe in to.
