Its as a 2006 Jeep TJ with 38k miles on it. It is a 6speed which I love. Its got a 5.5inch lift King shocks in the rear Front King coilovers Long arm Kit. 35in in tires on beadlocks. 4linked in the rear - 3 linked in the front - Fully Locked

good looking Rubi. I would say you should take it down to 3" for more stability, but I'm not sure you can do that with coilovers...

I'll be the first to step out and say: Stick a winch on it and call it done for the summer. Use it as-is (pretty darned capable, it seems) and get to know it first.

Nice Jeep!!

what gears and what tires? the tires on it look pretty good, and their really nice MTs, IMO. I ran them on my old TJ...drive quiet for a MT and get pretty decent mileage. good offroad too.

I figured that if someone spend the cash on coilovers they'd have done gears a while ago, but then again, it's a Rubi...

dieseldoc
June 13th, 2015, 04:46 PM
Are they going in where your shock are??
I think emulsion shocks would have been the easier way to go Brandon. A set of sway-a-ways out back would be dam near bolt in the pull the coils.

Rebuilding steering....did the teflon liners come out of the joints or are you changing it completely going hi steer knuckle on the passenger side???

I think you should get it to 100%
And wheel it
Thats why you bought the thing.
The JKU/JK is not as tough a rig so the 06 is the one to run.

It Looks like they have been broken for a while !!! I'm really glad now that you towed it home, great call, I think you should not worry about the coil overs and 're che k every but and bolt on it, also inspect all work that was done to it before you bought it, and recheck all the work you did as well. Then you can consider other work like coil overs and what not.

I Agree an disagree with you on this statement yes it a teaching moment but is I break on the trail than I break ont he trail I don't let it annoy me. My shop is just there for me when I need. I went through it on Sunday.... Found out my steering box is shot so not I just looking at other route

dieseldoc
November 25th, 2015, 04:47 PM
So what happened to the steering box?
You say its wasted......well how is it wasted??
Snaped slopy what?
There are specs on how much "freeplay" a steering box can have.
They are rebuildable.
And generaly unless its snapped the box its self will be good.
Seal inside may be blown. But I highly doubt the sector shafts have damage....

So what is the resion the box is trashed?

MultiScuf

Yeah I got all that last week. I think the bearing will go again though so should I replace it or what?
Nah it sloppy like when I turn my it take couple extra turn in the wheel to turn it either direction. It still drive straight its just taking extra work to turn it. The bolt/nut/washer are not staying tight to the steering box... So it kinda all over the place at what it could be...

ExplorerTom
November 25th, 2015, 10:26 PM
So your steering box is not secured to the frame. Yeah, that will cause sloppy steering. Get a lock washer or double nut it or something.

sounds like maybe the pitman are hole where the bolt for the draglink goes through it is worn out. a competent welder can weld the bolt hole up and re-drill a new hole.

dieseldoc
November 26th, 2015, 10:33 AM
Seams sloppy or is
That is a huge difference.
I beat on mine far harder than you do.
Steering box is fine.
The pump on the other hand is not so happy it has started whinning like a FORD pump.

Dont do a part just couse they say it feels sloppy!
Make them prove to you it wasted.
Like I said before there is not much in a steering box that will fail.
Some seals thus letting the psi from the pump to flow by thus not assisting the box.
As the wear in the over center will come out of addjustment and that will need done....
Old boxes have a jack screw to reset over center but new ones not so much.

The TJ box is not the strongest out there but it is a good box compared to the jk box....
