I had a flashlight explode in my mouth.
And BOOM. loud noise. Bright flash. Feeling of broken glass in my mouth. Had to slow down to get myself to breathe.
Swept mouth for glass. Ran inside.
called 911 and called for my son, because I had no voice. Son called 911, he is 7. Took a minuet to get over the pool of blood on the floor. Fire Department arrived less than 3 minuets later.
The paramedics were amazed that I was conscious. They established an airway and rushed me to the local burn center.
So here I sit, day three with 3rd degree burns to the mouth ane throat, heavily sedated, intubated with a breathing tube and feeding tube in my throte. They are afraid if an emergency air way were needed, it would not be possible.

So far no one is sure what happened. An arc, a battery explosion, who knows.
My initial thought, al LED wit a snow flake seems unlikely due to the lack of glass found.

Sorry to hear, but glad that it wasn't any worse. If there is anything we can help with, just holler. I live near Lakewood, so it shouldn't be a big deal.

holy crap that sucks! Hoping for a speedy recovery. I own several solarforce l2 lights, one that I uses daily for work for that last 2 years and haven't had any problems. Curious on why you chose to run 2 123a batteries instead of a 18650? I've heard that using 2 123a cells could cause overheating from different charge levels.

Wow. Sorry that this happened. Injuries suck and take time to heal and burns can be the worst as far as discomfort in my book. I wish you a speedy recovery and the very best.

I would also like to reiterate multiple people's sentiments that if there is something you need, please let us know!

Chris,

How have you been?

The flashlight in mouth topic came up and I searched back to find the thread...

Doing better. Still have night mares about it. Have some residual damage to tongue and a chipped tooth. Will be getting oral cancer screenings up to twice a year, likely for the rest of my life. Having a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePo4) battery empty its contents in my mouth, has me a bit concerned. I am back to working as a Park Ranger, and work a lot at night. I am constantly yelling at co workers for putting their high power LED lights in their mouths.
Thanks for asking, Jim.

Best wishes that it'll only get better - no cancer to crop in and nightmares to dissipate!

Hear, hear! It sux that this happened to you and I hope there are no lasting repercussions, but I am very grateful that you shared your story to our group so maybe it won't happen to someone else. We all know the saying "live and learn". In this case, I think the key word is LEARN!
