So we all know soloing is a bad idea, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't do it. Also, if you're wheeling with one other rig you better be ready to solo, possibly with a dead vehicle in tow, or if you need to turn around for whatever reason on a run you might end up driving out alone. I'm doing vehicle prep this weekend and trying to fine tune my gear (again!). I found this article and it seems mighty incomplete to me... any suggestions?

they don't even list a shovel, a jack, or even any tools for vehicle repair. And their reason for the hatchet "save your paint from nasty pinstripes from overreaching tree limbs" c'mon. But i guess that's about right for a magazine with a name that implies being on road rather than off.

Based on the picture, I would figure they just learned to leave the AAA card at home last trip.

How do you call AAA if you don't have signal? Needs more long range communication capabilities.

Yeah, that is a weak list. No water? No blankets? No compass/gps?

One of the things I figured out slightly too late is no matter what pack like you are spending the night. Don't care if you plan on camping. You might not be given the choice.

These two lists are much better:

I just put together a new tire kit, also have a pump from this thread: http://www.frontrange4x4.com/forums/showthread.php?22268-Portable-Compressor

the kit, valve cores/tool and spare stems were $36.00 with shipping from amazon.
