So this happened last sunday. See if you can spot the real problem.

Hmmm - the tire's not positioned as it should be? -chuckle-

pfew! It seems to be less costly and easier to fix than some of the other possibilities!

Good to have an easily replaceable weak link.

It was a clean Break. But the rest of it is still in the dif with the lock ring

Oh, that sux....

My eye missed it.

How hard will it be to remove the lock ring and push out the broken bit? Remove diff cover is what's on my mind - is that how your vehicle is handled?

I believe the 4runner has a "clam shell" two piece front housing so opening it up to remove the broken shaft requires removing it from the vehicle. It's supposed to just pop out when you pull on the shaft.

I wonder if a very strong magnet would pop it out.

Most of the time we have to pop them out with a prybar..

Is the center of the diff open from side to side?

If yes, could you pull the axle on the OTHER side and PUSH the broken bit out (or would that be too much work)?

Yea I think I'm going to do that, I think I have to take out third member too. We will see. I tried drilling into it and tapping it , then putting a bolt on it. But harden steal does not agree with my drill bits.

Not 100% sure what your problem looks like but can you weld a piece on there and slide hammer it out?

I don't think the tact would hold. there's just to much stuff in front of it. But I will keep that in mind
