ok so my xj has been running hot... like 240 hot

it was dripping from the water pump so i got my hands dirty and this is what i have done so far.

i changed the water pump with a fresh re-manufactured pump.
i installed a brand new 180 t stat
i did a full flush on the system with the hose, flushed the heater core, radiator, and block
I'm about to go and buy a new Rad cap. but obviously have not tested this repair.
ive checked the fan clutch and it seems to be working ok.

there is 0% oil in the antifreeze and 0% antifreeze in the oil and the motor seems to be running just fine.

could it be a bad temp gauge or sensor and not actually overheating? its not bubbling over or anything when it says its at 240, the truck is purring like a kitten.

My xj temp gauge started reading high so I installed a mechanical gauged to resolve issue. Use an infrared thermometer to check if gauge is correct just outside of stat housing. Also make sure all air is bled out. Raise front of truck until radiator cap is the very top of system and try to bleed any air out through there. Does it go above 240? Temp gauge sensor is a pita to get to at back of engine but could be issue. They have 2 sensors one for gauge and one if you have the light, make sure to get right in for your application

A fan shroud would help...

No chance the fan is installed backwards?
