Looking for an app that does these things,

- GPS positioning
- Offline maps
- USGS Topo Maps
- MVUM
- Trip recording (breadcrumbs)
- Load tracks in several formats
- Free

I've seen these,

- US Topo Maps Free
- Avenza PDF maps
- Locus Free

Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

I love Avenza! Pretty sure it does all of those things. Not sure if I paid for it but the maps have been free, just search for ranger districts MVUM by name and then it downloads them for offline use. The maps are high res and smooth tracking. Using my phone I can download the .kmz track files for google earth and just open them in Avenza instead and it works great.

I use MyTrails. I love it - it works flawlessly. You can download the GPX files from traildamage, and you can also download offline maps from many different reputable sources as detailed or non-detailed as you want.

OruxMaps is good too, though due to its open source nature and only using open source maps its more limited now then it was when it first started. Still, you can download satelite or topo maps and use them offline, and you can overlay GPS tracks over it to navigate with. It also has a 3d mode which uses Topo maps to make it like Google Earth so you can get a better idea of the size of mountains or how steep stuff is.

I'll have to check out the Avenza one, that is a new one I hadn't heard of yet.
