My wife has a Forester that she takes beyond where I think it should go (love her) so we're casually shopping for an Xterra to replace it. I do like the Pro4x models, but if you don't get that package it's a whole lot more affordable and there is a decent aftermarket. She also wants an automatic, which is where my dilemma is; if you get a manual of any model, or a Pro4x with either transmission you get a H233B rear axle, which is great. With a non-pro4x automatic you get a C200K rear axle. There is a powertrax no-slip and an ARB available for it, and I've found that it has 1.25" axle shafts with 31 splines and the spider gears are the weak point, but that's just web-opinions. it's hard to find good tech online about it.
Does anyone know anything about the C200K? I don't want to do an axle swap at any point, it will get (incrementally) skid plates, rockers, rear locker, lift, tires- if the C200K is worth locking and can take a 32-33" tire reliably. Is it a soccermom / D35 type axle?
Thanks!!
