View Full Version : China Wall is destroyed, now where to go?

Looking for some recommendations as to what's a good easy trail to run my jeep for a shakedown trip. One that's open, and not flooded. I don't want to create deep ruts and destroy a trail much like China wall ( wasn't me, but I hate that it's shutdown)
Also needs to have a truck/trailer parking. Any and all suggestions welcomed!
Thanks!

It was pouring so hard it started washing away dirt and creating major puddles, a few guys went in and tore it all to up really bad, then a few people went after and created their own trails around to avoid the mud and in turn forest service has shut it down. There have been extensive volunteer work being done to repair the trail in effort to keep it open. Still going on

Holy Sh!t..... We do our best to take care of our trails and a batch of punks with daddys truck come through screw up every thing we work for !!!!
But we knew this would happen when they closed LeftHand.... All the kids would find another trail to mess up !!!!

Sad to hear about this, too bad there are still morons that do this kind of stuff and tarnish all of us and get trails closed.

Sadly I still hear more about this behavior and less about the efforts to repair and clean trails.

Someone with some good graphics software should be able to read this license plate.

Since it's on FB, here and elsewhere I'm pretty sure the people that are against 4x4's in general and monitor 4x4 websites will have this in hand and take some kind of action.
I can't recall who adopted the trail but I'm sure they would like to know who trashed their hard work from the last couple years.
IIRC there's a $500 fine that goes with this kind of behavior.

I saw on FB that it has already been reported to authorities, hoping a ticket will be issued for the visible license plate. Who knows if that will happen though. The guys doing maintenance on the trail originally posted this. Apparently they had asked the guys as they passed to please not go in the mud and destroy it more. The guys said they wouldn't, then still did it anyways, which is what prompted the pictures to be taken. I believe I saw that they will be doing more work on the trail this coming Saturday.

that sucks. re the op- there is a huge trailer parking area at Yankee Hill, and another over by Rollins Pass East. Both would give you access to other trails too.

I was there Sunday afternoon. I made it through the meadows and at the intersection with 204 the Colorado Four Wheelers club was there doing maintenance. They said I could go on but there was a lot of mud beyond where they were so I turned around and went back out the way I came in.
There were a lot of people there doing maintenance. It was good to see.
Here is a video I took of the run. You can see the club at the end of the video when I stopped.

To the OP-
The southern gultches, metberry, longwater, and hacket have a large flate are for the trailer right at the start of fs360 on the north end. Metberry has so bad washed spots logged in to get out of the mud.
we did pull 3 very large ones down to keep side skirting from happening.
Dont know long waters condition as of now.....8 weeks ago it was in good shape.
Hackett is a good shake down for sure and is very passable as of 2 weeks ago.
Enjoy your shake down run.....pic please

Bunce School Road. Bunce is way easy. Add in Ironclads for a bit more difficulty.
Ample (at least during the weekdays) truck/trailer parking at the "side entrance" to Bunce.
Last I was there, water / ruts were not an issue.

x2 on Rollins Pass, although there's still a bunch of snow up past Jenny Creek. plenty of trailer parking at Pickle Gulch and the trail is perfect with a few spots of mud and running water. was up there on Sunday...

Anyone in for an easy Rollins pass stroll? My jeep unfortunately does not fit on Jenny creek but dirt road is good by me!

Normally, I'd be open to a Thurs or next weekend but Dad's not doing well and I'm making a quick trip back to see him and Mom this weekend (returning Tues night). If my schedule isn't crazy I could do a Thurs - but likely my sched after being out of town two days will be booked for Thurs. The weekend is a possibility. Hopefully someone else will jump in for the day you're looking to go.
