a couple friends of mine want to get out on Sunday and try some new trails. I've wanted to see the Apex/Mammoth route so I suggested that to them. I think the plan is to meet in Idaho Springs around 1-1:30 and go from there. they might try to hit up Jenny Creek as well, but I don't know if I'll have time for that.
so far, there's two Rubi JKUs and me.

looks like Kingston Peak is the main trail for this run. anyone know if it's open yet? or will there be too much snow?

Yankee Hill / Cumberland Gulch would be more fun for your group in that area, IMO, given what is open. With the capability of your rigs you'll find Apex / Mammoth to be very tame, but Yankee has some fun play areas especially on the Cumberland side.

yeah, my friend and I have a lot of wheeling experience and have both run the gamut as far as rigs go. he's owned 2 different buggies and traded a TJ on 42s for his JKU, and I've had a Commando on 37s in the past. so we're both very comfortable with "easy" wheeling. I guess we're more about the views nowadays than seeing how crazy we can get with our Jeeps. :)
so how does this plan sound:
start in Idaho Springs. I'm the only one in our group who has been up OMG Road to Central City, so that would be a cool place to take them. from there, Yankee Hill. in the middle of YH somewhere is Miner's Gulch and a handful of other offshoots that all lead back to Apex. from Apex, head to 119 for the short jog up to Pickle Gulch. run PG to the top where it runs into Dakota Hill and eventually Moon Gulch. follow MG down to Rollinsville where they can either keep going on to Jenny Creek or head home (like I will most likely do).
thoughts? I might point them in the direction of taking FS105 to Ned if they want even more trail. I really love the fact that you can get from Idaho Springs all the way to Ned via dirt. :)
