First of all I'd like to thank the forum admin for accepting my request to join this forum and all the warm welcomes. Here goes my first trail plan. Still feeling my way around this forum so correct me if I'm screwing this up. Another member expressed interest in a wheeling and shooting meet. Are there others who might be interested?

Hey Froilan,
You're hitting the nail square on the head (we'd give a gentle nudge if things were off track).
I'd be interested in a trail / range trek. Pref would be to a range area that would be empty of others (and safe and legal).
Any trails with a nice valley w/o a stream or road to be crossed by a bullet's path? Solid backstop?
Folks looking for rifle or pistol / how long?
I visit a nice spot at the Pawnee Grasslands that's public land. Accessible via car - never anyone else around the scant few times I've been there. Pawnee is out of the area for most (though it's car accessible).
Anything west of Denver / more central for the group?

I'd be in of course. We were recently at Barbour Fork and there seemed to be plenty of shooting activity there, including a location we stopped at that seemed safe with back stop but with trees in the foreground. Only signs relative were no shooting within X of trail head. I shoot regularly indoors and used to shoot at Squaw Pass but that was recently shut down. I'm open to any locations that others may be able to recommend or maybe Barbour is an option?

I'm thinking if there's a lot of people coming, maybe stick to close range, if not we could hit the pawnee grassland for long range shooting. I'm not sure, but I think there is a jeep trail there and there's that free bakers draw shooting range that is 25, 50 and 100yrd so that should fit the bill. It's about 2hrs drive from Denver with the on going road construction. If that's too far I know a safe place half way up and at the top of spring creek. If that's still too far there's a place about 1 mile up on cascade creek. I haven't ran barbour fork yet, but looks promising.

I'd be down for Spring, Cascade or Barbour. I'd personally rather do closer than farther as it'd be easier on my schedule. Summers are busy with the family stuff, work and all. I'm already in the foothills so I'm spoiled :D
Thanks Froilan

I don't recall being to either Spring Creek or Cascade Creek and would perhaps prefer those over Barbour.
Spring Creek is higher difficulty - might that equal a better location (fewer people)? Never being there, I have no clue as to which would be better for target practice.

I've not shot at any but I've run all 3. There are other routes up to the top of spring on backside but spring creek run itself is difficult and impassable or at least damaging for anything close to stock imo. Hoping for a"trigger run " report from anyone that's familiar.

I'm off tue/wed and can usually shuffle stuff around to have Monday or Thursday off. So would Aug 3, 4, 5 or 6th work with anyone?

I'm out of town Aug 1 through Aug 5 on the SW Colorado trip with Tom and the Holy Cross trip.
Aug 8 is my first opportunity. Weekdays are a possibility.

8/3 is my only opportunity next week but planning a Red Cone trip for that day already. I may be good for a 8/2 trip but won't know until later (work). I'll check with my BiL to see if he'd rather do Red Cone or something less dramatic with shooting.

If you go to pawnee be aware of the construction on hwy 14. I've been up there quite a bit of the summer and if you dont make it at just the right time for the one lane light you will.be sitting for quite a while.

I could be in for a Tue/Wed shoot/run. Would likely stick to Side arm, maybe a few rounds from the .243.

I can do weekday with a 1/2 week notice.
I'd be riding with someone / car to trail head as the jeep "needs a little work".

Ditto, kids back in school next week and so far, I may have a loose work schedule. I'd take the reins on scheduling one if I had a definitive location. Barbour is the only one off top of my head that would work and is relatively central that I know of. Suggestions?

I'm open for any good / usable location.
Grab a date and stick something up with either Barbour or location in the area of Idaho Springs and we can hash that out between now and the scheduled date.

When: Aug 25th, where: spring creek/trail creek Rd which can accommodate folks who wants to leave their vehicle at the trailhead, meet: downieville starbucks at 9am. I'll stick it on the calendar if this works for most.

I put it onto my personal schedule.
I'd be needing a ride / will park at the trailhead.

I'm bringing a few targets but if anyone has any of those fancy quick-setup frames, that would be cool. Currently looking around the house for **** to shoot at....

I have three push-in paper targets and one push-in steel target. I won't be bringing any other targets.
I do have a freestanding wood target but wasn't planning to bring it (I can - it breaks down nicely but the wood sides are 5' tall (1x1's)).
I can toss stuff into the car and can leave stuff in the car if not needed.
I'll bring a blanket and some cardboard for laying down. + paper bullseyes + cardboard for backstop/mounting + tape

Looks like it should be added. I may just meet and ride along since there's no way I can do Spring Creek in my truck. I'll know a bit later if I have a clear day.
Edit: Like magic! It's posted :lmao: must have been a glitch on my machine.

Thanks, I'll have some of this stuff too but realized today that I never got my steel frame target stands back that i loaned out a while ago. That'll teach me.....
