View Full Version : Night Run West Magnolia Friday 8/7

This coming Friday evening I'm thinking of kicking off the weekend with a night run up West Magnolia. Since it's a night run and I don't want any problems / breakage / stucks, I'd like to just run the main route without the spurs; specifically begin around 7:30-8:00 in Rollinsville / CR 16, meet up at the trailhead and take 105 to 355 to 132, back to highway 119 with a quick detour around the 355 camping spurs, which are easy and short. If there is any interest I'll post it up. :thumb:

This was the last night run I did, Yankee Hill rd two years ago. It was a lot of fun, and an easy enough trail that no one had any problems. West Magnolia is even easier, but has some beautiful open areas that should be great at night.

A couple of weeks ago when we ran West Magnolia I saw a group of motorcycles go by as we exited the spurs- what caught my attention was the dog riding on one of the bikes! So I was looking for West Magnolia videos and found one of bikes with a dog along, turns out it's them; and you can see us at 11:04, I'm the Jeep he mentions in the text. :)

I'm tied up that week, my work schedule just had a fluke this weekend and I have Fri night and all of Sunday off. Doesn't look like this run is getting any traction anyway...

That might be fun. Don't bail on this at least until tomorrow evening (Weds) after I have a day of rest from SW CO trip.

It's not posted, I'll just leave this thread as is and see if it develops. Glad your trip went well, can't wait for the reports! :thumb:

Definitely interested. Never done the trail but it looks good for a night ride. Wife gets scared looking over edges, so night would be great if she couldn't see the heights to be afraid of I'm 90% and I'll ask at work to see if anyone would want to go.

Night runs are cool and fun. Wish I could make it, but just can't happen with a kiddo at home. It is past our bedtime.

there are no cliffs or ledges on this trail, it stays low the whole way. I'm not into plummeting to my death either! :) I guess that's enough interest to post it. :thumb:

After checking my emails I was reminded that I have a Trailridge Runners club meeting Fri evening. Its normally the second Fri of the month. Not this month cause Sat they are heading to Silverton for the 30 th anniv trip. Suppose I should attend in case they've any trail status question seeing as I was just there.

I'd really like to go, I just got too many things up in the air to commit. Biggest being I'm not sure if my lady friend's ex will be taking her son or not. If the run still happens I'll do my best to make the meet time. I'll check at lunch tomorrow to see if there is any definite yes or no on the run and try to let you know then if the run is still happening?

Is anyone else still going? We were still planning on going up. We'll be heading up around 6:30 towards Rollinsville if anyone wants to meet there in town.

As bad as I want to, I wouldn't have an answer for a while yet, I gotta go get a fuel filter and see if that helps this little hesitation I developed last night. Ok, bad hesitation, like cant give it hardly any throttle..........

I was thinking about going, but I already had plans for last night, plus I wish it would have been on a more challenging trail. Thanks Jim, for giving me the heads up though ;)

I was just about to slide under the truck and take the fuel filter out, and a lady friend called and said "lets go have a drink".................................................. ..I was torn man, I was REALLY torn, but she.........well...........RAWR!! Anyway, that's a trail I'm sure my Explorer can handle right now, so I really wanted to go.................but she was wearing these shorts you see.............................

yep, read up the thread. no Yes RSVPs on the morning of the run, so I changed the title to West Magnolia Cancelled and the text to Cancelled. That stays up until the end of the day of the run, I think. Tough year for runs.

In some aspects, absolutely. And she can be a real sweetheart, but there's always that other side too. We hang out from time to time. That's all. But she is a treat to look at!!
