I have to applaud REI for giving their employees paid time off for Thanksgiving AND Black Friday this year. They are instead encouraging their employees and customers to go outside and enjoy their time off. I couldn't agree more. I don't get all wrapped up in the shopping, and refuse to do ANYTHING on Thanksgiving other than have a nice meal with family and good friends. I tip my hat to REI.

Never have participated in Black Friday. Good for REI! My work closes down for that Friday but I don't get paid.

Good for them.

I stay away from Black Friday. Way too many people.

super awesome and kinda ballsy, really. I've always said that even though I love working for Cabela's, I'd love to work for REI even more. this just confirms that.

Rock on. Thanksgiving is a time to spend with family or at least enjoy the day and watch some football. It's also great how they are encouraging people to go outside on black Friday which is basically what the company stands for. Going outside and enjoying nature not waiting in lines or buying gear to look cool.

Good! Way, way, way too much commercialism around every holiday now.

Maybe you can get hired on at REI for a 1 day gig? :)

I think it just for publicity. Plus REI supports many organizations that are anti-OHV.
