I know lots of people love Amazon but they have their share of thieves. They just screwed me out of $300. Short version - I bought a camera for $300, the seller sent me a different one worth $120 saying the one I ordered was sold out and the replacement was better.

I told him I didn't want one other than what I ordered. The seller gave a bogus address to return it. It was returned to me as undeliverable. I filed a claim against the seller. Amazon gave me the real address to return it a second time. I sent it off and it was undeliverable. Another bogus address.

Amazon cancelled my claim since I couldn't prove it was returned.

Amazon also removed my warning to other buyers - this thief is still selling with Amazon's approval.

Apparently all anyone has to do is what this seller did - set up a bogus account, bogus address and they can fleece away without Amazon giving a damn that they're screwing people.

Buyer beware.

who is the seller? You know your warning won't be deleted here.

This is the address Amazon told me to use for the return. Their address for the seller.

Chicago, IL 60613 (http://www.frontrange4x4.com/forums/x-apple-data-detectors://6)

Did a Google Earth search and here's where Amazon told me to send it.

Wonder why it was undeliverable. More curious is why Amazon let's sellers use phones addresses and settles claims in favor of a scammer.

The item at that link says fullfilled by Amazon. Meaning they are the ones that shipped it, and are supposed to provide the customer service. It does seem odd that Amazon would ship a different item claiming it to be better.

You paid by credit card and can refuse the charge, no?

You're right, I hadn't noticed that. That's a change since I bought.

Yeah, I'll be talking to my bank but the issue is that I followed their directions to a T and even though the address they provided is bogus they still denied my claim.

In that case you should work for them. My only error was buying from them.

I'd file the complaint again and continue to try and return it.

Can't do that, their setup prevents it. Besides, I've wasted too much time on them already.

Yep, a credit card dispute should hopefully resolve this. Hopefully you kept the packaging that came back showing undeliverable. That combined with the instructions for where to return it should be enough evidence.

If you paid using paypal you have some recourse through them as well. I had a truetrac stolen (I think it was the UPS driver, I was home waiting for it and got a delivery notification on my computer saying it was delivered, no truck ever showed up) ebay said "good luck" but apparently with items over 250.00 the seller is required to get a signature to prove delivery when using paypal. There were some other requirements too that I can't remember, maybe one can help you? It's all on paypal site, user agreements or something like that. I made a stink and got a full refund, it may work for you (if you used paypal). hth.

that's a nice Canon in the link! I have this one, it's a cheaper model but has excellent video / audio and can take abuse, I use it and my gopro almost exclusively http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerShot-Waterproof-Stabilized-Wide-Angle/dp/B0075SUKIC/ref=sr_1_4?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1447079892&sr=1-4&keywords=canon+powershot+underwater&pebp=1447079900144&perid=0TG9QHMSCKPY80985V0J

Sorry to hear you had this trouble, Chris. I hope the CC company will make good for you.

I've made lots of little purchases from sellers other than Amazon for things like batteries. Your experience is a wake up call to not buy anything expensive unless it is sold by Amazon so they can be held accountable.

I notice that this Amazon "marketplace" idea, where they act only as the logistical arm for a seller, has been picked up by the Walmart website too and maybe others. I'll bet they have similar practices putting the risk on the buyer. You can be sure the risk isn't going to be on them!

A growing trend: My electronics avenue is NewEgg.com, they have a similar setup with 'marketplace' vendors too. Nicely, when searching for products, I can select "NewEgg Only" to restrict listings.
