As you're asking, I'll offer what little I have.

I ran a 5 gallon, ?roto molded? plastic, foam filled, fuel cell on my motorcycle for a long distance trip to Alaska (and needed the extra fuel).

I purchased it at Jegs:

Drag race, 5 gal, horizontal ( I realize you'd be looking at a different unit, this is what I used ):

The plastic, clip-n-turn filler was nice. The whole unit was sturdy. With the foam fill I never noticed any sloshing. Filling was no issue - the foam fill didn't cause fuel to spray back / out during fill.

Seeing the occasional fuel cell in a jeep, I think all were aluminum.

What questions are on your mind?

I have an aluminum rci fuel cell in my yj. The newer rci cell have a history of cracking at the welds though. A bladder style fuel cell is a better option but they are higher priced and generally more aquarist shape so take up more of the cargo area. That said I've had mine in for a year or do without any issues.

I know a guy who put a fuel cell in the back of his Cherokee. It laid flat and took up the floor in the back. When he was actually wheeling, he would have problems with fuel starvation, wound up with a pick up system that had 4 lines inside the tank. He told me that if he had gone with a vertically mounted cell, he would not have the problem with fuel slosh.
