Last year the 92 4.0 developed a small oil leak around the oil filter so thought, after replacing the adaptor o-rings still leaking. Come to find out the oil was coming out the top of the dip stick, check all possible culprits clogged valve cover baffles, vent tube etc. Instead of messing with it I decided to just get another used 4.0 to freshen up so I searched and found a complete 4.0 w/135K with transmission & tcase on CL in Cortez for a good price so I headed up.
After several months of sitting I decided to try a compression check and all looked ok around 130# except #4 cylinder which was leaking out the valves. After pulling the head an filling the valleys with alcohol sure enough #4 was leaking so off to get the head re-worked. All the piston were perfect and the cylinder walls still had the cross hatched so I just cleaned everything up and hope to have it ready for the Anniversary Run !!

Compression number are all 150#+ and that's cold!, Also if anyone is looking to test a 4.0 out of the jeep I had to sacrifice the transmission for the bell housing to mount the starter and now I can jump start the motor to test.

Probably not going to get to the new build this years, since I need to install the new HP44/9, and it looks like I have my current axles sold so I would like to make a few runs before this happens. Thinking about linking the rear what's your thoughts vs leafs ?

Got the old motor removed and new one dropped in a few weeks back and worked out some of the bugs, mostly that a 97 oil sending unit will FRY your 92 oil gauge in a millisecond! Motor sounds and runs good drove it to Fort Collins yesterday for emission's and passed with good low numbers. Let the 2016 trail season begin !! Well at least until I sell my axles then the build will start again,
ARE THESE THINGS EVER TRUELY COMPLETE?
