Hi Everyone --
here is a photo of the part I need identified :) Yes I know...I am a dork. It is a control arm right? I want an adjustable one. When I do a parts search I find "upper", "lower", "front", "rear" -- Of course this is a front. Also when they pop up the ones I find appear straight and this one is very NOT straight. Help? I see that lots of folks make adjustable control arms and the prices vary. I don't need the uber part -- the Rough Country is fine or even an off brand. Don't need to put $350 into this part. Help! LOL
Thank you!

If it goes from frame to axle then its a track bar, yes you can get them adjustable. I believe some call it a pan hard bar as well.

Kyle that is a tram bar also the proper name is panhard bar.
Look up parts on Quadratec.
They have all to good stuff. It is a jeep part wearhouse you will want an adjustable with the right length for your lift.
Example:http://www.quadratec.com/products
Fallow the Linky thingy.
Its the JKS adjustable for 1-3.5" lift.
It is an upgrded unit.
The frame side uses a Johnny joint so some drilling will be required to install it.
I think you can handle that.

Let me know what else you need help with.

Kyle the rough country stuff will work but it's a Chinese mad part.
The JKS part will last longer.
The Ruff stuff is still a ball joint and is thin plastic inside like the factory stuff.

Look for JKS on eBay. Very good parts

Hi my name is Kurtis I just replaced my track bar on my TJ so it's very similar to what you're doing on your xj if you need any advice let me know and I I upgraded mine to Rubicon express I took off an adjustable one from rough country but I'll just give you if you want to try that one it's the same one that you're looking online at PM me if you're interested

Right on Kurtis.
I have steering parts for her as well.

Kyle the JKS stuff is US made. And you will end up wanting to spend more as they have really good parts.
Let me know when you are ready to do the lift and we can make time to come out and help if you wish.

I don't know if that picture is from your rig but some stock track bars do have the bend in them for clearance from the axle. The one you linked from ebay is a rough stuff. They are okay but don't have the best reputation with their joints. You get what you pay for. The more you spend the better it will likely be. Also plan ahead, if you are going to get a lift get a track bar that will be appropriate for what ever lift you want.

Whichever one you go with, make sure you put anti seize on all threads. You'll thank yourself later.

I've been running a Rough Country suspension on my LJ for about 5 years now, no issues and I wheel it all over Colorado and Utah. It's a great kit, and customer service has been awesome- I had a leaking shock, sent them a pic, they had a new one to me the next day. Nothing else has failed, I'd buy it again.

You may want to contact RC about where it is made, there is a lot of bad info online. http://www.roughcountry.com/customer-service/ Here's a thread about it on Jeep Forum that RC answers regarding where they're stuff is made. It's an older thread, I'd email them and ask, they seem forthcoming. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f11/looking-into-rough-country-suspensions-879896/

"4.5 & 6.5 spring pack is India/Canada the 3in is Canada the coils are made is the U.S.A in Mississippi. Shocks are made in Mexico. The other bits and pieces are made in TX, TN, CA, and GA "

here you go, facts instead of opinions, I emailed them from the contact form above when I posted this morning. American made, MOOG ends. It's possible the lower prices have something to do with manufacturing it in the same facility its ordered, built in and mailed from, or the awesome and underutilized ability of American workers to produce a quality product at a reasonable price, or a business model that has higher volume / lower ratios for sustainability over growth. IDK. That's another email...

"Hi: I'm having a "discussion" on a forum about where your parts are made, I was wondering if you could tell me? here's the link to that thread, I'm Paul with the LJ that uses your stuff: http://www.frontrange4x4.com/forums/showthread.php?24539-What-is-the-part-specifically-called&p=300828#post300828 Thank you!"

"The track bar is question is actually made and powder coated in house at our Dyersburg TN facility. The Rod end is a Moog ES3096L

I hope that helps!

moog has moved there production out of the US and the quality has greatly suffered....but what would I know as amechanic who wouldnt use that junk on my own ride!

we have opened new moog joints and can turn the thing in its socket right out the box.......

so again you get what you pay for.

Hearing the same on 4Runner forums, best avoid Moog these days.

opinions vary, as do experiences. Here are some recent reviews from actual users of that exact part (which is actually made in the USA):

Anyway, good luck and do your homework, opinions and reviews are generally worth what you pay for them. :thumb:

Again Paul it comes to personal experience.
We used to use moog on a regular basis, tell we started having to replace them with in a few months.
This not just on my jeep, were I have tossed the TRE and gone to hien-joints, I am hard on my jeep so TRE don't love very long. $80 rod end will live near a year. Moog joint lives 1-2 months.

Our work trucks are 2007- 2012 dodges and the ball joint that Moog builds didn't even make it a week.
These were installed with the right press. All done right, greased all the stuff that should be done.
And with in 7 working days the death wobble had returned. Upon inspection the ball joint was the issue again!
So yank the junk go get a new one, grab the thing at the sales counter and guess wht, it spins in the cup by hand! This is so not ok.
An new ball joint or rod end should be tight you should never be able to spin the rod i, the cup by hand.
If you can it's trashed. Thus a brand new part is not a good part.
So Paul it's time you do some research about it.
Moog is getting a ton of complaints on many different boards.

The rest of the part is a quality built part sure, but if you can't get a quality rod end with the part then why buy it.

The part off my self at the shop
Moog federal motel.....made in Mexico.

The Rough Country part is not bad in and of its self, yet the rod ends are not.
Then why spend good money on it.

As Chris stated above, the Toy boards are covering this as well.

Just saying.

Moog is getting a ton of complaints on many different boards.I have been happy with the "NAPA Premium" ball joints I installed 5 years ago. Post up if you find a product worthy of it's price.
