Anyone know if barbour fork is clear of most of the snow? Thinking of running it either tomorrow or Wednesday.

It doesn't open until June 15th, same with Devil's Canyon.

Both are elk calving grounds so they keep them closed until the young elk are old enough to fend for themselves.
Not lame. ;)

NOT lame. There are often very good and reasonable reasons the forest service closes trails during winter months. Its time you educated yourself about why.

Are people able to hike up the trail and sight see the elk?
Or is that a no no?

Id assum that would open it up to poaching and probably not best to go up without a firearm which would make it seem like you're poaching anyways.
Still would be a sight to see!

My assumption would be that it is open to people hiking up as areas are very rarely closed to hikers. My opinion is also that the areas where the elk would be could be a long hike, possibly more than 1 day trip. Also unsure I would really want to get very close to the calves. Mom likely wouldn't be very happy. From a distance it could be very cool to watch with binoculars.

Given the amount of casings and debris we've cleaned up as well as our destroyed signs in the first 100 yards, I would guess there are plenty of people hiking up there during the closed months.
