We had to put Westie down this morning. Recently her health had seriously declined and we tried all that we could to keep her comfortable, but it clearly had became too much for her. I realize that we are very fortunate to have had Westie all the time that we did. I found her running astray at about age 1 1/2, which was almost 13 years ago. At the time she was in poor health, but made a fantastic recovery and led a long and happy life. We will never forget you, Westie. You taught me many lessons, and you were there for me always. Thank you, my loyal friend. Wherever you are now, I hope you know that you will be missed and you remain in our hearts.
For those who live in West Denver area and need a vet, we had utilized Foothills Animal Hospital at 13015 W. Alameda Parkway in Lakewood. During the last couple years they have been professional, helpful, and affordable. Their services were appreciated and I would highly recommend them.

Thanks to everyone for the condolences.
It occurred to me today that I had her longer than I have even known my wife. I met my wife about 3 weeks after I got Westie. Sure was a good thing they got along because I know who would have been staying and who would have been going! Luckily I had found 2 great girls in my life. :)

Sounds like to me she had a great life !

I'm so sorry to hear that, Jeff. I hope your grief passes quickly. We're going through cancer with our dog now, she just had surgery last week, it is rough.

Thanks Paul. Hopefully your dog recovers quickly and leads a happy and healthy long life!
The vet thinks that she had an aggressive tumor as he could feel it in her stomach area. That is likely why she had a decreased appetite, lost weight, and stopped eating the other day. At age 14 we didn't think it was appropriate to make her suffer through a surgery and recovery. When she had been to the vet a couple weeks ago and we got the news, we decided it was best just to keep her as comfy as possible. She was a stubborn dog though, and still insisted on following me all over the house, and even coming up stairs every night to sleep on the floor next to my bed.

I thought about that. I used to do a lot of 35mm SLR photography, and I have lots of photos of her on film, but I don't have much digitally. Just a bit behind the times with technology. Found a couple digital photos as well as a great video of her playing with my daughter who was about 2 at the time (age 5 now).
A couple of the photos include our other dog Dewey (yellow lab mix). He had to find a new home when our daughter started walking. He was absolutely terrified of her walking around and would hide in the corner shaking. Poor guy, he was such a wuss. He found a great home though.
