So i just got the front axle on the scout done dana 44 power steering etc and the pinion nut on my rear axle came off! Thankfully I was only going about 5 mph and I'm hoping there is no damage to the gears so it might be a relatively easy fix but we will see.:frown:

That is a bummer. Hopefully it will all go back together without any issues.

Well got the scout back to the house and it looks like a new/used set of gears and carrier are going to be in my near future. The plus side is the locker looks undamaged! So anyone has a dana 44 carrier lay'in around(3.73 gears would be great) let me know.

Bummer, seams the pinion nuts are not being locked down right.
I have seen a high number of this failure this year.

The nut should have a punch impact to lock it into the groved spot on the pinion.

Hope the locker has no impact damage.

Good luck with gears.

They should work for him if he does both front and rear.
4.10 might be high for him but will give him the right gears for 33's

I hear more upgrades coming.

Thats awesome... but Im on a budget now, spent all the money on the front axle and power steering, so for now Im looking for 3.73s and a housing and I believe that the 4.10 housing will not work for 3.73 in a dana 44.

Thanks guys

Thanks guysI took a low break carrier out of my project axle, not sure what I did with it. I'll check the garage later.

Ok I got the axle apart....The carriers in good shape! but the ring gear has some chunks missing wa wa. I ordered a bearing and seal kit and either a buddy of mine might have a ring and pinion for me or its a run to conrods for a NOS one. Either way I will hopefully be back in action in a week or two.

I am fairly confident I still have some 3.73 ring and pinion gears kicking around. They should be in usable condition. You are welcome to them, but I wont be home until the end of next week. They came out of my scout about 4 years ago and have been sitting around in a box ever since.
