Well since the "old farts run" that Alex and I were going to run was postponed due to weather I thought this would be a good time to prototype some fender flares before I commit to switching from a 30/44 width to a 76 F-150 44/9 axles for the new build. The tubes are 1.5 x .120w and I bent them to fit my current sliders an about 5" wide which should give me 2-2.5 inches of tire sticking out, using 19g steel my though was to see if I could put a slight angle in the sheet metal and not do the "traditional" XJ flat tube fenders so the tops are pitched 13 degrees. The tubes are welded into the rock sliders as well as to the F/R bumpers sheet metal is completely welded to both tubing and fenders which is about 50 feet. I'm by no means a welder but I had some shinning moment/welds lol. I did use no more 1/32 of metal glaze to finish the fender seam but other than that no bond was used. I used all my left over paint last month on my half doors, no problem I have the code #622 well I headed back to the same paint store and guy gave him the three digit # that he wrote on the can four years ago and told me that's not a good number WTF. Lesson learned always ask for a paint code as paint fumes cause brain damage. For the most part the paint matches somewhat an I'm good with the results so I hope the wife gives me the ok build another XJ next year. Not sure why the photo aren't in order.

Very sweet. I like how well they cover at the right spots. Looks very clean as usual. Do you have frame stiffeners?

Thanks Cliff, I'm going to move the back axle with the same set up as yours and yes I have the welding in frame stiffener that's what the sliders are welded to along with being tied into the A an B roll cage pillars.

looks awesome Steve. I just did a test run with the new 44 full width swap in, makes things a lot wider for sure!

Thanks Stu, looking forward to seeing your new set up out on the trail and getting some measurement and your thoughts on new front end.

I thought I remembered you having them. So far setup has worked well for me but I have not been out much since the stretch.

I agree with Steve, I look forward to seeing it on a trail. I have been bouncing around the idea of full widths for a little while now.

Thanks but I have zero computer/electronic skills, I envy those that do. In HS I took typing class just for the girls and I failed that class lol

Nice work. Looking great!
Did you repaint the whole rig or just do a good job of blending?

Thanks Aaron, It was my first attempt at blending, but since the previous paint code I had was invalid the paint shop tried to match its as close as possible so up close you can tell. I'm somewhat bummed because I really wanted to practice a blending process.

I ran up the backside of Pickle 2 days ago. still a 4-5 ft. drift across the trail. I'll try and run up there one more time before the 8th when I head to the flatland for a week.

Photos make it look good. Blending sucks. Although painting in general isn't my fondest of tasks.
Keep up the good work!
