View Full Version : Getting my new BFG T/A KO2s installed next weekend!

:jiggy:
I was hoping to make it through to February before pulling the trigger, but with the last couple of "dustings" we've had and I found myself fish-tailing at 20 MPH in a 30 MPH zone on Buffalo Park Road, I figured I better do it NOW.
My original BFG MTs were great tires and lasted me the last 8 years with just shy of 49K miles. (I'm keeping the spare as it has barely seen the pavement). Now I just have to keep my fingers crossed that I can make it through the next week without issue. (Snow is in the forcast):erm:.
If anyone wants my old ones to use as rollers (or perhaps a spare), let me know. We would just need to arrange to have you snag them before Discount Tires sends them out to re-cycle or whatever.

It sounds like the old tires certainly performed well for you over the years. Surely the new ones will be just as good or better. Always good to have a new set!
What size are the old tires (rim size)? I typically keep some rollers hanging around, as well as some tires for emissions.
Jackie

The rim size is 17".

Dam 17" stuff.....It seems I may get one more set of tire before having to by wheels.
The 15" style is going away and getting hard to find tires for.
The 16" style is even harder.
Just because the manufactures and public are using these more don't mean everyone is rich and wants a set of 17's:eek:

Jeff, I think they would be fine for roller/emissions or possibly a spare in the summer time. If you want them, let me know. I might be able to get two of them in the back of the Jeep and get them home. No way I could carry all four. I'm having them installed by Discount Tires on Kipling in Lakewood. I don't have a set appt. yet, but I'm sure it will be next Saturday sometime and you can meet me there if you want all four.

I recently transported six 35" tires in the back of my JK. Oh, I just noticed you may have a two door. But still, I'm sure 4 would fit with the seats down and nothing in there.

Off set is way wrong for my rig. Tires will rub and it will be narrow again.
Nice find for sure.
Still sucks to be forced to go into a bigger wheel.
I like having side walls to soak up the hits in the rocks.

Remember, the bigger the tires, the smaller the rock.

You might be right. But I have no place to store them. I don't want to bring them home.

$100 all day: http://denver.craigslist.org/wto/5896858516.html

(http://fortcollins.craigslist.org/wto/5891150861.html)I haven't bothered to look up other model years, but I guess it sucks that they're much more expensive. $100 seems pretty cheap to step up into a modern wheel size.

$100 is cheap, but as Brandon pointed out, those stock JK wheels have crazy-tons of backspacing. us TJ guys would have to run 3-4" spacers to make them fit ok...

Stay safe until Saturday, Jackie. It looks slick as snot out there right now, and it sounds like you're higher up these days?

I'm at about 8,200 at my house. We didn't get more than maybe 3" of powder yesterday. But since we did get a little melting and slush (as to be expected), I'm a little worried about black ice come morning. I'll be fine because I am well aware of the condition of my tires. (My game plan: Leave the house early, 4WD, right lane, and a safe speed without going too slow for the morning commute). Friday should be much better conditions and new tires on Saturday!!! Thank God I don't have to drive on I70, I25 or any other major HWY.! (I would have bought them sooner, but $$$).:frown:

My new tires go on tomorrow (Saturday) at 10:15 AM. If any of you want my old tires for rollers, emissions or spares, just meet me at Discount Tires in Lakewood on Kipling and take them before the shop does whatever they do to them. If you PM me. I'll see your message on my phone and let the shop guys know you want to take them.

Yep. When I bought the jeep (craigslist) it had 5 near new 35" KM's and their replacement cost factored on my mind into the purchase cost of the jeep.

The new ones are on and the old ones are gone! The only fault I found with the installation is that they forgot to put a cap on one the valve stems. (Oops)! I noticed it when I got home and just took the one off my spare for now. I'll get some more. No big deal. Good service overall. Since I had an appointment, their estimated time for in-and-out the door was accurate. Other people were waiting for three hours or more just to get a flat fixed. (At one point I heard them tell a customer that there were 40 cars in front of him). 'Tis the season...

OK, this is just strange... Does anyone have any clues???
I already mentioned that I came home to find a cap missing from one of the valve stems. I snagged the one from my spare tire and put it on. (No problem).
I just got back from the grocery store only to find that the cap I put on is now gone. Same tire. (???) I called Discount Tire and they never heard of such a thing happening either.
I'm not concerned about buying some new caps, but I am concerned about the integrity of the tire. Have any of you experienced this before? (YES. I'm sure I put the cap on straight and tight)!

My drive home was only about 14 miles from Lakewood to Evergreen. Mostly Hwy driving. I was going about 75 MPH at best. Then I did about 6 miles of local driving. I did notice that the ride was smoother, but in all fairness, that wasn't much of a test. I'll let you know next week when we get some snow!

I have BFG mud terrain and they are awful on the road and great on the trail. but I feel like because I spend way more time driving to the trail than on them. (even though it's not a DD)

I had the BFG MT's as well and I thought they were awesome off road and in snow. They lasted me almost 49K miles. (They were a very rough ride toward their end life).

So far these are fantastic in the snow, especially with braking. Liquorman likes them:
