I damn near got toasted by a dude driving a Ford F150 tonight. I was taking my daughter and her friend to their martial arts class near the Safeway in Evergreen. As I turned left onto HWY 74 approaching the lake, the truck ran a red light and passed me on my right. He missed my Jeep (fortunately, as I was transporting two young girls). He hit the mountain wall on his right and likely would have flipped if it wasn't there. This is a single lane hwy. No passing is allowed (especially after running a red light). The kids said he nearly flipped. I was too focused on the road to look back, but it didn't matter because he managed to pull in front of me with inches to spare. NO WAY I would have tried to keep up with that maniac.

I know it was a white Ford F150 (possibly lifted) with no topper. It had a lot of decals/stickers on it.

Happy to be home safe and sound. Traffic is getting insane around here. It didn't used to be this way.

Glad you are OK, it is so hard to understand what motivates people behind the wheel of a 2.5 ton vehicle these days.

"What were they thinking?" Oh! They weren't...

I'm glad you and your charges are OK!

Glad the girls and you are ok. I taught Jenn and Neil to drive with their head on a swivel. I almost got rear ended last night by a fed ex truck because the lady in front of me slammed on her brakes, too busy looking at her phone.

Damn phones. If you need to make a call, take a call, or send a text...PULL OVER. Your conversation is not nearly as important as the lives of other innocent people. I don't know if the driver was using a phone or just being stupid and careless in other ways for different reasons.

I do know that he had to be going at least 45 mph in a 25 zone, in the dark, on a short twisty stretch of road, trying to pass in a right lane that doesn't exist. I would have loved to have handed my phone to my daughter to get a picture of his license plate, but I wasn't willing to drive that fast to catch up. Stupid.

Glad nothing more serious happened Jackie! We have a policy that we don't talk on the phone when driving. We also ask anyone calling if they are driving and hang up if they say they are.

Call us when your not driving is standard from Barb when phones started to become popular and she had one for work. She'd tell co-workers, clients, etc she didn't want to hear metal crunching, glass breaking and their dying words. It was surprisingly effective!

On the other hand you just can't fix stupid.

Barb is a wise woman! We all need to slow down in so many ways.

Glad no one was hurt.

I've seen a fair number of people running red lights after yellow lately where I live, in the Longmont to Loveland area. A relative of mine in Denver says it's become really bad there so he won't go on a green light until he checks both ways.

These people are real boneheads. But I think a few are taking a calculated risk decision. Since traffic signals pause for safety between the red and the green, some people figure they can push their luck on yellow with no consequence.

It's crazy in Denver Bob. We realized people don't stop for red lights after we moved here and my wife had her car totalled when a guy ran a red light and I hit by a woman who passed the car in front of her that was stopping for a red light. Quite an eye opener!

We were told by a desk sergeant that it's not uncommon to have a cop writing up a report only to have another accident at the same intersection where my wife was hit and that Denver cops spend so much time dealing with accidents that they don't have time to do anything else.

Bonehead is being kind.
