Might be interested in getting out depending on the weather as I have to work if it's snowing. They have said certain trails are closed. But I wouldn't mind seeing for myself. Might try Mnt. Herman it is usually a in place to run in the winter. I think the decker's area would have more snow.

Is Mt Herman open year round? I may have to go scope some of these places out and make sure they are open. If all seems good maybe we could go Sunday Feb 19th?

Kurtis, best wishes for Katy!

Victor, I know the area like the back of my hand. If you need any directions, or help with meeting places let me know. I usually trek through Santa Fe to Sadalia up 67 down to the river and go up through Deckers to Westcreek. There is a fire station in Westcreek that people usually meet up at. OR, you can go I-25 to COS up to Divide and hit the west end of Cedar Mtn. road.

Depending on which trails and exact date I'm up in the air. Rite now the big 4runner is down getting a 60 front in it but with luck will have it wrapped up this weekend. The little 4runner I don't want to run it on Hackett or the steep rocks in the snow.

Also, went up last weekend and I know there has been a lot of talk of those trails being shut down in the winter by the FS but I checked out all gulches entrances and none had any signs saying anything about closure and all the gates are open.

Alternitive to the gulches if too much snow would be possibly run trail creek, cut up through to cedar Mtn, and create a loop of sorts. Thats what I did last weekend. The area is a very huge interconnected trail system. I think I have tracked (mapped) 95% of.

Has an official weekend been chosen yet - looks like a suggestion for 2/19? Post it up as a run when a date is finalized...I can't do 2/19 weekend, but other weekends are possible for me. But since I am unsure the status of the jeep I will just watch for now and see what develops. I think Metberry would be fun...

Tj, looks like you know the area well so I'm looking for your advise. What two trails would you suggest to run. Other than trail damage rating I have no idea what would be best this time of year as far as difficulty and snow making obsticals unpassabe in a stocker. I have good tires and 2" lift, but no winch. I want to plan a run for 2/12. I hope there is still a 2/19 run but I think I am going to have visitors and won't be able to go. The more runs the better. I plan on meeting at the fire station like you said at 9:00am and the up to the trails. Thanks Chris

Chris I am well experienced with this area as well.
Of the 4 gultches in that area Mettberry would be the best option for a stack rig this time of year.
The only place I could see an issue would be the slab.
If it's got any ice or snow it will be very tough.
It get sun most days so should be cool.

The loop TJ mentioned would good as well.
Cedar mt. rd is easy we rarely use 4x4 on it.

All set up! Feb 19th! I'll also post on the planned trail runs. Thanks for your patience everyone, work is demanding sometimes and takes away all my fun time, and thanks for all the help, seems like a great community of enthusiasts here!

Along with what Brandon said, on the west side of Cedar Mtn. rd Trail 201 is a good route to take down to gem mines and creek crossings. Only one hill climb where folks have trouble with the snow. I also noticed that Cedar rd, where it starts by the fire station has around a inch or two of snow but as soon as you hit around 8700 in elevation is gets to be around 8-12" in depth. A good run would be from the fire station up Cedar, down 201 , back up 201, then take 360A down to Trail creek(200) Then up 364 to 366. Brandon is correct in saying that it is all 2wd stuff BUT, in the snow it's quite different. Some of the North facing areas of Lonwater and Metberry are still a little deep in snow but passable. I , as of now am open the 12th if you would like some company up there. My 3rd gen does have a rear e-locker and a winch, and I could be a good guide :)
