Well, 3 rigs arrived, 3 rigs left. Guess that is really all we can say!

Actually, we had a really good time. 5 people total. Only saw 1 pair of ATV's the entire trail. Basically nobody else there. This was my first time to do OCG and believe this may be the most difficult trail I have ever done. My truck struggled on several obstacles and had some minor breakage. The torsion bar splines in the A-arm partially stripped out. Totally unsure why this occurred. Will do a teardown and compare these Rancho bars to the factory bars. Other than that, 1 slightly bent bumper, 2 broken tail lights, and 2 very small dings. Pics to follow soon!

I had a great time today Jeff, Jon you guys did great, hope we can do this again sometime!!!! It was really a nice relaxing time. It was also great to see how clean the trail was. I only picked up 2 items that was it... Also the newly build access road is great, no more huge mudholes/ruts!!

Yeah, just wish my little POS Toyota did as well! The solid axle really made a difference in several spots. Only saving grace is my rear e-locker. I would have had to turn around at the beginning and go home without it.

Hope to make this run eventually.

You did great man. The only spot where you really seemed to have trouble was the V-notch. I was impressed how well the IFS did

Actually the IFS really sucks. The saving grace was the locker. A locker makes a TON of difference! Either of your rides with a locker would really be a killer machine!

you're truck did fine man! although i think in the future you should just tell people you're going 3 wheeling! lol

Patrolman

Yeah. Your trucks both did really well. I was surprised how well they did with open diffs. There wasn't as much wheel spinning even when the wheels were lifting up. I definately do the 3 wheeling style. It doesn't bother me at all since I am definately used to it. I have wheeled more IFS than solid axle the last 14 years. Running solid axle sometimes feels a little out of the ordinary to me. The Patrol is the only real vehicle that I have wheeled that was solid axle!

So the videos look pretty good. I tried to upload last night on Youtube. Took 30 minutes or more and then I went to bed. They never loaded. Any tips on a different way to get them posted? I can email them to someone as well.

You say this like there is something wrong with three wheeling. ;) I have done more than my share of it over the last year!

BTW, great pics guys!!! I wish I could have made it down, but the City has been pretty haywire this week and there would be no way for me to break out.

Yeah, I did a lot of the 2 wheeling bit, just at opposite corners. Rocking back from front to back. Definately a different experience and some people stare if they have never seen an IFS rig wheel pretty hard before.

nothing wrong with 3wheelin it. I just had to laugh my truck was right in the middle of the two extremes. you have skippy there with more flex than he knows what to do with. and then there's patrolmans rig which love the 3 wheel action.

So we had some really good conversation along the way as well. We got to chatting about Rovers. I had mentioned that I test drove a Series ambulance model about 8 years ago. I think this is the exact vehicle I drove. If not, identical to it.
http://svsm.org/gallery/LandRoverAmbulance?page=1

I also mentioned that I would really like a Series lightweight. Saw one for sale several years ago that I should have bought. Here is a link to a similar one.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Land_Rover_1/2_ton_Lightweight
I believe the one I was looking at was a Series III if memory serves correct.

We also got to talking about other cool cars. The Toyota 2000GT was one that I brought up. The "youngsters" hadn't heard of it. Of course, most people haven't I guess.

that 2000GT is AWESOME!!!! i love the interior on it. Now i need to find one then i need to afford it.

Patrolman
May 23rd, 2008, 08:12 PM
Yeah, those cars come in around the $2M mark. Closest I will ever get to a 2000GT is my 240Z. Same designer, Yamaha of all companies/people. Here is a link with a tiny bit of info.

The Rovers are super cool and the nice thing is they don't have a lot more value than a regular Series Rover. Just harder to find.
