I'm going to head up next SUNDAY THE 23rd morning, leaving denver about 9am and taking the backroads up, should be at the big area by the Boodle Mill / Central City Cemetery by 10:30 or so. If anyone wants to drive up the backway through the parks and gambling towns we can meet up at Crown Hill Cemetery (26th and Kipling) at 9, I know a fun way with some good dirt roads.
I don't want to bash too much or have a winch fest, it's a little early in the season to break stuff, but I'm expecting to make it all the way over, or atleast to the big snowfield without too much drama.
Post up if you're interested!
Nice video from mid Feb., we've only had one big snow since then so I'd expect it to be pretty clear...

I might be interested, although I'd be coming from the North on Peak to Peak highway. I don't have a winch so I'd like to go with others just in case. I'm familiar with Central city but haven't done any off roading in the area, I assume the cemetery is in the far west side of town before the Central city parkway???

Bearings are humming. Luckily they can go quite a long time with this as I have been driving it for a year this way. It is common.

Looks like this has some life to it, I'll post it up. :thumb: Matt, if you take 119 to Apex Valley rd, then go south on Upper Apex rd it will take you right to the cemeteries, you can't miss them. Both are graded county roads.

I'm definitely interested in joining in. I'm on the fence between driving the Scout the whole way (200+ miles round trip), or trailering to the cemetery meeting spot. On google maps it looks like the meeting spot might actually be trailer friendly with room to unload and go without worrying about leaving the truck/trailer for a while. Is that right? Thanks for any help.

Right, there's plenty of space for a trailer. Go easy on yourself and trailer the Scout.

Count me in! The meet up spot is 15 minutes from me. I have a winch in case we need it.
What are we using to keep in contact on the trails? I have 3 regular motorola walkies that I usually use. I have a handheld cobra cb haven't used it though...

Update: Just saw the trail event. New to the forum clearly

CB channel 4 is typical though CB's are NOT required. Rule #1 is each person is responsible for the whereabouts of the person behind. Keep the person behind in your sights or go back to check on them. The same ripples up to the head of the group - nobody gets left behind / stuck. Typically, people hang back for a nature break or to snap some pictures - if they have a CB they'll often call out to not wait up / they'll catch up.

I was hoping you could make this as it is on Sunday, look on the top banner for planned trails and you can confirm that your going and they have a couple of meeting spots. one is Crown Hill cemetery (9 am.) and the other is a cemetery in the Black Hawk/Central City (10:30 am.) area. He has posted accurate coordinate to both so you can put it in you phone or google maps and do a search.

Yeah been meaning to fix my CB for over a year now, maybe this summer if I am not too busy with our new toys. Looking forward to getting out. Got truck loaded up and even threw in the chains. Heading up early to do a little playing but will head back down to cemeteries to meet up with everyone.

I wish I had chains for the new tires but I will lay back and follow everyone's tracks. Should be a good time!

Looks like a great turnout! :thumb: I looked at the map of the new fencing and it's possible the area we meet at will be fenced off and we'll possibly not be able to park on the road to meet; just past the Boodle Mill (huge lettering saying Boodle Mill on the side) there is a Water Dept building with a small park / lake / restroom next to it with a parking lot. Check there, unless someone has a better idea. There is a reservoir with a parking lot on Upper Apex road that might be a good choice for future meetups there, but IDK if there are any posted restrictions in the lot. Should be interesting...
IMO the fence is due to all of the "long-term camping" going on there, if you look at the map in the link on the first post it closes off all the trails behind the cemeteries as well as the big staging area. There were people living in cars behind the cemeteries last year, I'd guess they've been pooping and littering all over too. The vandalism they're talking about probably has corn in it. I hope they make a nice staging area up there, it would be nice to have it away from the historical stuff. I hope it is positive in the long term.

There is always dropping off into the trial and shuttling our buddies back and forth. from a location nearest that would be legal??

Possibly this Shell station, but I've never been there. https://goo.gl/maps/mG5U8N2mywm If needed I'm sure someone can hook up their compressor to your tires to help out, myself included.
