Thinking about an easy run to take the CJ on. As its just back and running (hopefully), not looking to push very much at all. Mostly want to see that it will run fine. I also realize Sat is not looking to be the best weather - but got tentative plans for Sun - so maybe keep it around the front range at lower elevations and easy trails. If Sun plans open up, then I might consider joining the Yankee Hill run. Be happy to take suggestions....I've never run Bunce School - think that can be a good winter run without too much snow bashing? Other ideas....maybe stuff in the ramparts or Rainbow Falls if the snow stays at higher elevations. Honestly, I'd could be happy just driving a dirt road! Obviously the gulches are standard this time of year - but that might be a little more than looking for at this time.

Any interest or trail suggestions that might bring in other's interest?

Watching this thread...I'd love to do an easy shakedown run close to home.

There was zero snow up at the Bunce area two weekend ago. I don't think you should worry about that part of it.

I live near Bunce school road and run it pretty much every week - I'd be happy to join Saturday if you wanna start early (8-9am. After 10am the ATV rentals get there and it gets busy. Ironclads loop is awesome and the 105 is clear until the last 1/4 mile before the gate where there are some big puddles and snow - fun!!!

I would also be interested in something else in the Peak to Peak area.

let me know if this works ;)

As I am not that familiar Bunce - are both ends open or is it only open from the north end off of hwy 7. Can you go all the way through to Peaceful Valley? I am not up for Ironclads with the post rebuild tune in progress - long steep climbs cause issues with my old 2g carb and it takes a lot of tuning and float tweaking to get it just right.

Just to ask as I was digging around the MVUM - never run Johnny Park either. Is that worth checking out?

the Southern end is not open, but they are talking about opening it early May. So, you have to start either at the Bunce School Rd (Hwy 7) or you can start on the P2P trailhead (road 217). Starting at Bunce Hill Rd on Hwy 7 is the best in my opinion. The 105 (Bunce School rd) runs south for about 7 or 8 miles and then you hit some big mud/ice puddles and some snow right before the gate turns you back.

Ironclads is actually not very long, but it has some steep sections and a few big steps that require careful placement of wheels. Some of us could maybe hit this after running Bunce School road (105). The first part of Ironclads (before the loop starts) is not hard at all and takes you to some nice little overlooks and rock formations before the climbing starts.

Johnny Park is not open yet, but it's right by where I live (between Allenspark and Estes Park). It's about 10 miles or so and a little rougher than Bunce Hill, much better views also --- won't open until early June probably. Parachute Hill is right at the start of Johnny Park but its open year round -- it's much shorter than Bunce or Johnny but has a few small loops and dead-ends, buts its a little steeper & rougher than Bunce School.

I'm up for anything, I just visit these areas a lot since I live right in the area ;)

Johnny Park is closed. West end of bunce typically opens Memorial Day weekend

I am hoping to get out Sunday for a test run but am leaning toward the gulches down south because my Jeep struggles with the big hill climbs of 285 and I70. Might end up at Slaughterhouse because of how close it is.

It's raining pretty good up here and supposed to snow the next couple days. Saturday is supposed to be cloudy and chilly - should be perfect for wheelin'. This weather system should make Bunce School a blast - love getting muddy

If some know they are for sure in ... go ahead an post it. My sat is free and I am 90% in..., but want to check a couple things on the CJ tomorrow. Happy to meet early...maybe be heading onto 105 from hwy 7 at 9am? Not sure yet if I'd be coming through Nederland or Lyons yet - but that could be a meeting spot as well depending on others. Looks like Matt would be coming from the north....

The earlier the better for me - 8-9am start works for me. I can hang out at the Hwy 7 & Bunce School road to meet anyone who is coming.

who else wants to join?

if nobody wants to go Saturday, I'll probably join the Sunday Yankee Hill run that is also posted. Bunce is so close to home I'd prefer running this but either way I'll get some wheelin' in!

At least your's will actually go up it! :) Mine, no way. Watching this as my plans have changed and am freed up this weekend.

9 am is prefered for me as I have the better part of a 2hr drive to get there including a gas stop etc. If others decide a different time/place/trail - that is fine with me. I am offline for quite a while after this today, but will check in late this afternoon to see what is going on, as well as check the jeep a bit. I put about 25-30 miles on it yesterday and want to check a couple things to ensure its all good to go.

Works for me! I can meet anyone at 8 (or sooner) if anyone wants to run Ironclads before it get busy --> it's less than an hour round trip to do it (did it backwards last night). We did get a couple inches of wet snow last night and more is expected today so I think it'll be messy ;)

I'm out. Helping (not turning wrenches, unfortunately, but moral and food support, dog petting) my husband and buddy with coilover install.

Unless a few of you confirm 100% that you want to do this Bunce School run tomorrow morning (~9am-ish), I don't want to show up early & wait around for nobody to show up.

I'll probably decide to join the Yankee Hill run on Sunday instead if this run isn't going to happen, so if anyone is definitely interested in Saturday morning Bunce School run tomorrow PLEASE POST HERE TO CONFIRM today ;-)

If there's interest - it should end up on the calendar (and planned forum) which is a good go/no-go list for participants.

Looks like I am the last decision makers here. Matt - seems like you are excited about heading out on Sunday to Yankee, and its a long drive from me to get to Bunce to only drive half of it. And you are also more interested in Ironclads which i am definitely out on at this time. I still chasing some tuning/advance tweaking...and if all goes well I can take a short drive to some nearby dirt roads for a cruise or head down to Mt Herman and the south end of RRR easier than I can get to Bunce. So, unless you really prefer to run Bunce on sat, sounds like all will be happy to skip Bunce and you can head to Yankee on Sun.

Sounds good, maybe once you got her running smoothly we can do Bunce School! I like the idea of Bunce because it's close to my home and starting early means getting home before the wife gets grumpy. If you wanna run Bunce I'm down! If you'd rather stay closer to home that's fine too, and I'll probably do Yankee hill as long as the wife lets me ;)

I am up for what ever tomorrow if people are still interested. I can't make the Yankee Hill run, so it would be a good chance to get out.

If you can get up to Bunce School Rd early, let's go wheelin'! It's lightly snowing and low clouds make it very mystical out right now. Bunce school road looked pretty wet but not that snowy when I drove by earlier -- would make for a fun morning run!
Let me know -

Anyone else wanna run a wet Bunce School road tomorrow morning? I can be there anytime between 730-9am. I'd like to be cruising by 9am if possible so I can get back home before noon (I live 5 minutes from Bunce School Rd & Hwy 7)

Sounds good - I'd like to run all of Bunce and also ROck Creek down by the southern end when its all open in a while. Planning on a backcountry ski day on sunday - but if the weather and snow conditions go bad for skiing, maybe I'll see on you at Yankee.

Looks like nick and myself are meeting at Bunce School Rd and HWY 7 to do a morning run of Bunce! If it goes quickly maybe we will do Ironclads and or check out Rock Creek conditions.... I got a couple inches of snow and my place this morning but I'm a little higher up than Bunce or Rock creek so not sure if they got much snow.

ill post up when we return!

Sorry JGRubicon, I didn't see your post before I left this morning.... Let me know when you can get up here during the week or one of these weekends, and I'll go wheelin' some more ;)
