Is there any interest in an MSV/Coney Flats run on Saturday, June 10? I have to get this new (to me) Jeep out. EDITED to change to Saturday, July 8. Anyone? Paul? Tom? Bueller?

It is not scheduled to open until June 24th and 25th by Trailridge Runners. Waste of time before the 25th as the gates will be locked.

Yes, I remember having to split into two groups years ago (at least once with FR4x4). I'm looking forward to it!

If you remember one exhaust hole obnoxiously loud YJ on that trip - it was me. I believe that was my first trip with Front Range 4x4.
Are you in any of these pix?

Also interested, I'd love to get up there while the water is a bit higher. I would also be in to run T-33 again.

Nope, but I was there. I do see Michael (silver 4Runner, has a burgundy JKUR now) and Chase! I'm actually going to visit a former forum member friend with Beefy's wife this weekend. Also in my pix from that day is Brody. Judging from the size, we split that group up. It was a fabulous day, as always.

Is everyone who's interested in this, available the next day, the 9th? I finally found my notes from helping someone with their shop meet & greets, and it looks like I'm "working" on the 8th, so would love to move this to the 9th.

This trail is PERFECT for a newbie (with a good spotter in some spots)! It's one of the first I ever did (stock TJ with street tires, even), and it's wonderful.

Heather, I'm using your run for some education for the folks new to the group...
How a trail run progresses is how it is flowing for this run. Someone who is interested in running a trail starts a thread in "Planning". It gets discussed and when there is enough interest for X trail on Y day then someone (typically the person starting the process) creates a new thread in "Planned" and puts it up onto the "Calendar". The often lengthy "Planning" thread dies down. People RSVP a Yes/No/Maybe onto the "Calendar" so that the run organizer knows who to expect at the trailhead (everyone's here - let's go!). Last minute details get listed in the "Planned" thread which is often clean and easy to read.
Planned Thread for this run:

Calendar Entry for RSVP's:

Heather you had posted this is a good beginners trail. I have watched several videos and am somewhat intimidated. I know most videos are edited for the most exciting parts! Is this trail truly a 7 out of 10?

Hi Jaime - Its been over a year since I ran MSV/Coney, but your jeep should have no problems. The water at the lake crossing will probably still be a on the higher side, but the rock obstacles won't give you any trouble with your clearance. If you are at all worried out on the trail - ask a spotter to help make sure your on a good line. I ran my old cj5 on it with 31s and no lockers or anything. Personally, I don't think it rates as a 7/10 on difficulty unless something something changed significantly last season or maybe if the water crossing is really high. Maybe more like a 5 or 6 - more than Yankee Hill but not by much, and lots more fun.

It is much less than a 7.

I ran it in a stock wrangler sport jk open open n 2012. It requires a bit more clearance than that. No issues with the same rig lifted 2" on numerous runs since.

Jamie, you won't have a problem with the obstacles. I took my jeep out there before putting the skids on it. I had a little scraping, but no actual issues.
I really like it back there.
Is there a bypass aroung the lake? I have a friend that might join us, but he'll be riding his dirt bike, and may not want to swim. He was talking about riding ahead and taking pics of everyone.
Chris

The motorcycle bypass would be feet on the handle bars! :lmao:
Jim
June 26th, 2017, 10:31 AM
And then he hits that-one-rock in the middle and flops it and the day changes from a wet feet only day to draining an engine for a re-start.

Sorry, been pedaling for two days! My husband will be coming with and is an excellent spotter (famous last words). We have done the trail more than a dozen times in the last few years and he can help anyone who's low slung (including myself at this point) over the few larger obstacles. As for the rating, I've always thought Trail Damage, while my favorite resource, always erred on the side of caution and rounded up the ratings - sometimes a lot more significantly than others. I totally agree with what everyone said above about the trail difficulty, too. Can't wait for this trip!

Just line up (on the right side in the oval) as close to the entrance as you can; last weekend there were tow rigs/trailers parked to the far right - we just slid up next to them to air down. Worked out great.
