Anyone have plans to watch the Total Solar Eclipse Aug 21 by traveling into the totality band? Either north to Casper WY or east into mid Nebraska are the closest spots.

The Tetons will be in the path - any photographers think they could capture some interesting shot?

Think there is a nice state park on the reservoir at Glendo - could be a good place to stay. Might already be full though...

Hadn't thought about it. Might. Biggest problem is that it is a Monday. That means at least 2 days off work and that might be tough right now.

I saw the last one in Page, AZ Didn't know it was happening until we saw people gathering with weird sunglasses.
Turned out the city was giving out the glasses for free and guy gave some to us.
Pretty cool to see!

Saw it it a first time in MN when I was a welder so we doubled the glass and watched.

Protect your eyes!

I think it is already full, and the price was about 10x the normal rate (thanks state of Wyoming).

We will just be watching it from the side of the road in some rural BFE area of Wyoming.

If I go, that'll probably be how it works out for me.

FoCo to Glendo WY is 150 miles / 2.25 hours (Says Google) so it'd be an easy up-n-back (though I do realize I-25 might be QUITE heavy for traffic - it'd be gravel 2-lanes at that point).

I was trying to plan a trip for this two years ago, that all fell by the wayside when it hit the SO's desk.

Come to think of it... that happens to a lot of things. I should stop involving her in the planning... that's probably also a poor idea.

I'm making plans on heading out to see it. Have all the equipment needed to see it in both white light and H-alpha.

In case you see an airplane that seems to be flying in line with the totality band...

I'm going to go up into Wyoming about a week before to try and find an open camp area. I know all the paid sites have been full for months but I'm hoping most people wont have the free time to camp out an entire week prior and I can find a primitive or first come first serve spot just off the center of the totality band. Glendo is going to be swamped with people as is Casper, they are both preparing to host tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of people. Worst case I don't find a spot and only waste a day or two trying.

I'm planning on going. Going to do the COBDR up to the border and then decide what to do. Staying away from populated areas sounds like the best plan. Wyoming could turn into a complete cluster....... I may go elsewhere.

Ugh, I think the high 90 percent coverage from my porch in Longmont will have to do!

I'm with you Andy, not worth sitting in traffic. Besides, this once in a lifetime doesn't apply to everyone. I saw it a couple decades ago, early 80's as I recall.

Be advised - the authorities in Wyoming are of the assumption that many of the folks headed up there from Colorado will be under the influence... Laramie Police (and probably some other areas as well) is planning road-side sobriety checks.

Guess I won't be rocking out to Dark Side of the Moon and smoking a joint while I drive up there.. Ugh, so restrictive. I'm going up the week in advance just to avoid the traffic debacle that will happen the days before and day of. I'd rather spend 5 days siting in the woods than 12 hours stuck in traffic with a bunch of toked up Coloradans. Damn Hippies!!!

I thought all of the toked up homeless people were in the hills west of Boulder - with no money to drive anywhere????

Judging by the quantity of them in Colorado Springs I'm thinking they summer in the Springs and winter west of Boulder. I'm guessing it's not the weed that has them dancing on the street corner like they are trying out for So You Think You Can Meth.
